If information about nuclear fission is available in any physics textbook, why can't any country with enough money build a nuke and why are "nuclear secrets" so secret?
>>

Its technical and engineering data that is kept secret. The science is available to everyone
>>
>>8091222
because engineering something is harder than sciencing it.
>>
>>8091222
We know about the designs that were used, not about the process to manufacture a core.
>>
>>8091222

The theoretical knowledge of how to create a simple gun-type fission device it is widely available, "ISO 666: Best Practices for running a Nuclear Refinery" not so much.

Any country that wanted to could "easily" find out how to do it, at the cost of several million (well probably billion really given the cost-increase in modern bureaucracy) and a couple of lives.

Tack on some more billions to create a proper ballistic missile program (Witness how much Elon Musk is paying to get satellites in orbit - and that's riding the coat-tails of NASA knowledge).

So yeah, if you're willing to weather international condemnation and pay a few billion dollars and sacrifice some lives, you could deliver kiloton-range nukes, no secrets required.

but you'd face sanctions and threat of war.
That would turn the cost to a lot more than just the cost of development. Including your population raging at you because they have trouble getting simple stuff because of you.
>>

>Including your population raging at you because they have trouble getting simple stuff because of you.
did that happen with Israel or India?
>>
Countries have tried to implement clandestine nuclear weapons programs. The issue becomes inventory of materials, which are closely monitored by multiple agencies and government intelligence associations.
>>
>>8091383
israel has always been handed everything by the USA, even weapons.
India didn't sign the non proliferation treaty, and it was over 30 years ago.
(Also the USA imposed sanctions on India at the time, but it didn't matter as much as now)
Just see what is happening with Best Korea and Iran. Or how war on Irak was justified (they basically said oh look irakis are trying to develop weapons of mass destruction, we'll invade them. Even though those allegations were fabricated).
>>
engineering it easy. The hardest part is enriching the uranium. Even Isis could make a fission bomb.
>>
>>8091389
so no, not necessarily

I wonder what would happen if Pakistan developed and unveiled nukes at present.

Would the US/UN move to crush by sanctions or would everybody shrug and call it neutralization (MAD) of India's capability?
>>
>>8091222
>why can't any country with enough money build a nuke
Except that they can, ref. North Korea. Also US, UK, FR, IN, IL, PK, RU all used money to build.
The only thing that is hard is to obtain enough enriched fuel. That is all. For that you need ore (not hard), chemical treatment (easy) and enrichment either by centrifuges (hard), diffusion (harder) or other techniques (very hard and somewhat secret).

>and why are "nuclear secrets" so secret?
Just old habits. In reality very little is secret anymore. What was secret and high tech in 1945 is neither in 2016.

>>8091232
>because engineering something is harder than sciencing it.
Even harder, it seems, is to provide persuasive arguments. North Korea is hardly at the forefront of sci or eng.

>>8091377
>but you'd face sanctions and threat of war.
Which is why North Korea is a radioactive car park now. Or except that it isn't.
>>
>>8091377
>but you'd face sanctions and threat of war.

I wrote "international condemnation" right there in the post mate, it's not like I don't know.

This. Anyone can read how a turbojet works but the exact airfoil shape and spacing? Alloy composition? Sorry that's black magic.
>>
Takes an amount of intelligence and money/manpower
A lot of these third worlders simply lack the high iq people needed to do it

Plus israel is just going to bomb you
>>
>>8091222
Building a lot of centrifuges is still hard work.

I doubt that popular physics textbooks actually contain the relevant math and practical equations to model an implosion device well enough to actually make one. That's also really hard mathematical work AFAIK.

Stick in tube is much easier, but also less bang for the same fissile.
>>
>>8091222
lol knowing how to manufacture and build a nuclear bomb isn't the same as knowing the science behind it. any asshole can know why one works at a generic level. it's not as easy as sticking some plutonium into a ICBM and shooting it at the bad guys

It will also put you, as a country, on the top of the shit list of every country on the planet.
>>
nuclear energy is so interesting, might decide to major in nuclear engineering, what you think brahs
>>
>>8091389
Tfw when my great uncle built those facilities in Iraq and knew that they could not possibly be used for military purposes.

A few weeks after he returned home to germany the buildings were destroyed by the israelis...
