So i just heard the oldest woman has died today at the age of 116 with another leading behind her now.

I always hear women being the ones to live for exceptionally long time. And as a guy, I kind of don't want to die at the age of 70 or so. My last few grandparents have went this way already. This was probably due to their diet growing up since it was mostly death by strokes. Yes, I'm black. I did sort of ate what they ate in my younger childhood, but I always tended to eat healthier cause well, school taught me that the five food groups, avoid saturated fats, and eats lots of fruits and vegetables, something my family didn't do much. Currently, I live a pretty good life. I work out at the gym while I spend the remainder of my days working at the computer or walking about. However, as I approach 30, I start to worry if any of my family problems will catch up to me, despite me living pretty healthy. Will I start having heart problems? Will I get hit by something that'll make it so I never can make it to that 100? Or maybe I do have a chance to at least get there by changing my lifestyle to something more conservative?

What do you guys think? Is women living longer a product of their body compositions or living qualities?
>>

Longevity is a bit more complicated (and obviously an unsolved problem) than just "staying healthy". For example intense calorie restriction can help with longevity, but it's definitely not healthy in the short term.

Your grandparents dying at ~70 is pretty good conisidering that generation had the most retarded lifestyle.

You will probably live well past 70 if you keep up the exercise and dieting, what you really need to worry about is if you'll still have your mind and health by then. Being old fucking sucks.
>>
>>8083594
When I'm idling, I sometimes do wonder if my mental health would still be the same at that age. My one fear is my consciousness fading away, which is also why I fear death. And being old puts you on the border of that. Which also makes if that research for preserving brain health will come around in the next twenty years. I don't want to lose all I know or who I am.
>>
>>8083599
I have the same fears. What's fucked up is that we don't really understand it all.

I have a professor who's getting close to 90, he still smokes a pack of cigarrettes per day. In the 4 years I've known him the man was sharper than anyone else in the faculty, not only his work, but his wit in general conversation.

This year something suddenly changed inside him. He doesn't have any health issues, but talking to him you can clearly tell that his mind is starting to fade.

I'm scared guys ;_;
>>
>>8083610
How the hell can someone be 90 and still survive by smoking? I always hear weird shit like this. How the fuck do these people do it?
>>
>>8083611
Honestly, the demonization of smoking has reached fucking laugably retarded levels.

It really isn't that bad compared to most other shit we come into contact with every day.

(still not worth it to pick up smoking though, avoid sunlight too as much as possible).
>>
>>8083565
Men die for many reasons, some of which relate to risk taking.

Nevertheless, if a man is careful and avoids excessive risks, there are still a few killers left, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer, neither are particularly common in women.

Since society is more geared to protect the growth of a new generation and the elderly don't care much in elections it means that we have a lot of gynaecologists and research in these topics, while at the same time there are so few specialists on male specific illnesses that hardly anyone knows what the equivalent title for male illness specialist is.

Even more brutally put: society saves money by putting down men past retirement age.
>>
>>8083618
>avoid sunlight

But Im black. I have sun super powers

I actually knew a black person who couldn't go into the sun

If I had went the path of the research doctor like I also wanted instead of programming, I likely would have been looking into longevity and disease curing research. But then my worrisome mind always had this feeling that if I ended up discovering something, I'd forever be a slave to someone who would want to control what I discovered and make.
>>
>>8083624
>But Im black. I have sun super powers
You really don't, this is such a common fucking misconception it's more dangerous than rediculous, you have just as much risk of getting skin cancer, especially because you don't burn as easily so you feel comfortable spending more time in the sun.

ALWAYS wear sunscreen (for convenience use a moisterizer with sunscreen), wear a hat if you can and try to avoid being outside between 10h00 and 16h00.

You don't need to become a full basement dweller, but a few small lifestyle adjustment can make a massive difference.
>>
>>8083637
I know man. I was just jerking your dick. I'm well aware that sun is just as capable of burning me the fuck up as everyone else. I don't go outside much anyway, so I already have that fixed.

But sun doesn't have that much of an influence on your life. Sunburns are always nasty, but having a dosage of sun just bathing on you all your life won't do anything else.
>>
>>8083645
Yeah some sunlight is good due to the hormesis effect.

Then you also get fucking retards who jog at 12 just to get a tan.

There are quite a few little life style choices you can make which can drastically influence your longevity and health. The research behind it all might not be solid, but we know at least a few things that work.

All in all I think we'll die ~100 though. Aging won't be solved in our life times and we'll have to accept that at some point.
>>
>>8083565
My dads aunt made it to 99. His mother made it to 98.

Trust me guys, you do not want to live past 90. Neither one had dementia but they both became very frail and limited in their physical capabilities.

Do not fear death, anon. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently. Then guides into...infinity.

I really never understood that other than the actual psychological implications.
>>
Longevity is mostly genetics. Diet, smoking, etc. have an impact on people with similar genetics, but a non-smoker who eats a healthy diet and is predisposed to die at 78 will not outlive a person who is predisposed to die at 100 who smokes 2 packs a day and lives on fried chicken.
>>
>>8083711
I know some accomplices that drink beer and energy drinks. How long do you think they have?
>>
>>8083629
>forever be a slave to someone who would want to control what I discovered and make
I used to be a researcher in academia and natnl. labs.

As a researcher you are the one to make the discoveries. The labs usually want to protect discoveries using patenting. Pharmaceutical research is very good to protect. There is a huge pressure to publish too and anything to dramatically improve longevity is surefire Nobel prize material. You just cannot stop that, once the patent application has been filed.

You can always keep notes in sealed envelopes entrusted with people that will publish the contents in the case of your untimely demise.
>>
>>8083911
I guess that's nihilism vs. preservation at that point. On one hand, you want people to know of your research. On the other, you may want to keep it protected from those with the wrong intentions.
>>
Women have more genes than men. Science fact.

Maybe that's why they live longer? Men are really just women who have had a bunch of genes removed and been optimized for providing sperm.
>>
>>8083565
Men live to 116 too you know. It's like 5 years difference between men and women on average
Your chance of living to 100 is like 1% I wouldn't get your hopes up. Seeing as your black I'm gonna assume that your folks kicked the bucket because they never had regular health checkups and put too much salt in their rice and peas. Don't do this and you have a good chance of making it to 85. Good luck.
>>8083618
You're an idiot, he's one outlier smoking has conclusively proven to be ridiculously bad for your health. it shoots up lung cancer rates from 1 in 100 to 1 in 20.
>>8083621
This is true male cancers don't get as much funding however the silver lining is that they are generally easier to treat than female cancers.
>>8083686
This. What is the point in living to 100 you will be in a wheelchair all day
>>
>>8083961
>It's like 5 years difference between men and women on average
Fun fact: the 5 year gap is mostly caused by workplace incidents and murders.
>>
>>8083967
Women are so oppressed right?
>>
>>8083956
So are you saying women are the superior gender?
>>
>>8083961
>it shoots up lung cancer rates from 1 in 100 to 1 in 20.
Exactly, that's fucking nothing nothing compared to what skin contact with most modern additives do to you. You didn't understand my post at all.
>>
>tfw good genes

>all of my grandparents lived to be 90+
>grandmom has been smoking for 50 years constantly, 0 smoking related health isssues
>no allergies, no illnesses etc. Last time i was actuall sick was 10 years ago

I hope i live till i'm 106 so i can boast that i lived in 3 different centuries.

Lifestyle differences explain most of the gender longevity gap. As things like smoking gradually disappear, and men just become more pussified in general, this gap will narrow. This is already happening, as in most first world countries the male life expectancy is increasing at a faster rate than female life expectancy, so in a sense men are catching up to women. Biological factors do play a role as well, obviously, although perhaps less than was previously thought. Women generally have stronger immune systems, and are less likely to develop most forms of cancer by virtue of simply being smaller and possessing less potentially cancerous cells. On the other hand, estrogen is rather carcinogenic, while testosterone is believed to have cardio-protective properties. These biological differences do even each other out somewhat, although women will probably always have a one to two year edge in lifespan over men.

Protip: castrated men live 14 years longer

Get to it
>>
>>8083599
The leading cause of brain degeneration is inflammation, which is oten regualr or constant among today's society.
Despite all of the nerves in your brain, you don't have a sense of touch there (or inside most of you innards for that matter), so inflammation can easily go unnoticed.
And the cause of inflammation is high carb diets. 30-35% protein, 0-5% carbohydrates, 60-70% fats, with plenty of starch and probiotics is a healthy diet.
