I don't fully understand IBM's quantum computer stuff.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I don't fully understand IBM's quantum computer stuff. Am I a brainlet?
>>
Very simply, normal computers work, either there's power going through a wire, or not. It's 1, or a 0, they're binary systems. What quantum states allow for is much more complex information to be encoded into a single bit.

sounds dumb

>complex information encoded into a single bit

then it wouldn't be a single bit
>>

Regular computer bit is either a 1 or a 0, on or off. A quantum state can be much more complex than that, because as we know things can be both particle and wave at the same time and the uncertainty about quantum states allows us to encode more information into a much smaller computer. So that's what's exciting about quantum computers.

Don't get me going on this, I'll be here all day, trust me.

why not change the physical structure of microchips instead?

OP here, when I realised some of it could be treated as literal rotations directions, I finally understood.
>using complex numbers just to show an angle
why

Don't worry anon I got your gag, even if the others didn't <3

Th-thanks.

Because the imaginary exponents map onto the space of unitary 2x2 matrices and are easier to write.

Don't be down on yourself read a book

normal bit can store one number, zero or 1

qubit can be either 1 or 0, but can store two numbers, p1 and p2.
p1 and p2 are the probabilities that the qubit is 1 or 0.
n qubits can store 2^n numbers
