Is c an irrational value?
Is the speed of light not a limit where you require infinite energy to increase velocity anymore, where time from the objects point of view stops, and mass becomes infinite (if it's an object with rest mass)?

So is the limit an irrational and transcendental number?
>>
>>7972293
No, it's defined to be 299,792,458. Which is an integer.
>>
>>7972301
Does not even deserve a bait image
>>
>>7972301
And pi is defined as pi in base pi. It is an integer. :^)
>>
>>7972307
*as 10* sorry.
>>
>>7972302
But that's it's definition [math] c= \frac { 1 } { \sqrt { \mu _{0} \epsilon _{0} }} = 299,792,458 ms^{-1}[/math] Which isn't irrational for at least two different reasons, I'll leave it to you to work them out.
>>
>>7972293
Depends on the units m8
>>
>>7972629
c is unitless
>>
>>7972293
c is equal to 1.
>>
>>7972293
I'd say it is irrational, yes. It's defined as [math] \frac{1}{\sqrt{\mu_0 \epsilon_0}} [/math] Since [math] \mu_0 = 4\pi \times 10^{-7} [/math], it only makes sense that it is irrational, considering [math] \epsilon_0 [/math] isn't known to be of the form [math] \frac{x}{\pi} [/math]

Don't think this really depends on base of choice since an irrational number is irrational regardless of choice of base

The value of c and the definition of meters are linked together.

1 m is defined as c / 299,792,458 s

That's why c is exactly 299,792,458 m/s.
>>
OP here. I looked up an article on stack exchange asking this question.

The answer was that the idea of irrational and rational values don't apply to units, as it always depends on what unit you're using if the value is truely rational or not.

e.g. in meters per second, c is not irrational as a meter is defined as a fraction of c. Does this make the value of a meter irrational compared to other units of measurement? Well, maybe.

But again, if you use a natural units system and defined c as equal to 1, then c is an integer. But what if you were to define the unit system as c = pi? It all just depends on how the units are defined. Units are not numbers, somebody said (which makes sense to me).
>>
>>7973574
units aren't numbers and irrationality is a property of numbers. c isn't rational or irrational.
>>
>>7973487
Using all speeds as a fraction of c would be quite interesting, though difficult to work with
>>
>>7973434
>speed is unitless
>distance covered per unit time is unit less
>>
>>7973936
Better still: c=0; rest=1
>but why can't i travel at light speed?
Keep dividing by two and let me know when you hit zero.
Also, Kim is best waifu.
>>
>>7973949
um, it is.

distance and time have the same units, so they cancel out
>>
>>7972309

1 wouldn't be a digit in base pi, it would be some sort of log of pi.

>>
>>7976633
Huh. I wasn't aware that existed. I suppose it's my fault for not googling that first. Well, I did some more looking and it turns out there are a lot of these systems, not just the one you're talking about.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_units

All these constants retain their values, they're still the same numbers. To answer the original question in the OP, c could be irrational if you're using base physical units that require an irrational multiplier to represent the speed of light. If you define all of your units in terms of fixed physical constants such as c and G, to use the geometrized unit example, then you really can just cancel the units of different types of measurements.
