What are the odds of a persona successfully swimming across the ocean to another country without drowning, or being eaten by sharks with only the assistance of a life vest and maybe some insulation to prevent hypothermia?
the odds are 1:infinity
I think people have swam the English Channel, so it's possible if the distance is short enough.
The human body just doesn't have enough energy to actually make that journey. You'd die of thirst, starvation, hypothermia, or just drown before you even make it close to halfway.

this. swimming consumes a fuckton of calories. the people who swim the english channel lose like 14 lbs in the process.

This guy swam the English Channel when he was one, so it's definitely possible and pretty easy actually.

If they have protection from hypothermia, and a PFD, they could technically cross one of the oceans of Earth, but it totally depends on which ocean. It also completely depends on where they plan on swimming from and to, cause ocean currents would make it basically impossible if they try to go against it. This is also not including the fact that they would die from dehydration or others biological issues.
This doesn't even include the lack of food, or the mental strain, as there would be nothing to do but swim/float for weeks most likely.
basically don't even try
