How do I study Physics, /sci/? I'm a mechanical engineering student and I am very interested in being as good as Physics as I possibly can. I'm willing to dedicate as much time as possible to it.

Give me everything you've got, be it study tips, textbooks, online resources, encouragement, etc.

The same way you study everything else, you read and do problems until you understand it. Also picking the right place to start is very important, for example stating classical mechanics with Goldstein would be stupid, start at the bottom (Gregory is good classical mechanics text). I know it sounds obvious, but I tripped up here when I tried teaching myself group theory. Also >>7956746 is partly right, a get a good mathematical methods book and you won't go far wrong, I'd recommend Riley et al.

>for example stating classical mechanics with Goldstein would be stupid
Why? Too rigorous?
>Gregory is good classical mechanics text
What's the name of the text book?
>I'd recommend Riley et al.
Thanks, I'll check it out

>Why?
It's a graduate text, so it'll assume a lot of knowledge that you might not yet have, and could miss out on. Moreover that knowledge gap would make progression harder.

>Name
Classical mechanics, R. Douglas Gregory

Thank you very much, I'll definitely check it out.

My university uses the Young & Freedman textbook, what can be said about it?

>what can be said about it?
Very general, but not very in depth. The best you could do with that is (at least in my opinion) is find a subject you like then google "good introduction to <subject>", there'll likely be a stackexchange post listing the pros and cons about some of the standard references.

Taylor would be more than enough for you
But you can also check out Morin for really nice problems

Warwick?

Lol brainlet

Taylor classical mech is THE undergrad text in mechanics for physicists. Get good at using Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulation, a lot of engineering mechanics courses just use f=ma like it's 1770.

Once you have those formulations, you can learn QM. At this point, you can keep self studying or sit in on physics classes.

Electric field theory should be easy once you've done fluid mech, and vice versa. They both are the study of fields.
