I've tried a lot of them. The only one worth your money -- if you can't get a script for adderall or vyvanse -- is phenylpiracetam (avoid piracetam, even though it's the same compound, the phenyl group aids absorption and you take a much smaller dose). Stack it with a choline source of some kind, and enjoy. Tolerance does build quickly with respect to the focused-high you get from it, but the memory gains are pretty sweet -- placebo or not. Try not to take it more than once or twice a week.

You can order it from a swath of different websites. Liftmode is where I've gotten it from in the past, not sure if they ship to the UK though.

Modafinil keeps you from going to sleep. It does nothing for attention (and trust, pharmaceutical companies desperately wanted it to), and won't actually prevent you from feeling fatigued. All it does is let you operate at a baseline level for and extended period of time without needing sleep. A thoroughly shit drug.

Honestly OP, just get some stimulants. They're incredibly safe so long as you aren't hardcore tweaking on them and they truly, actually work. Amphetamines (Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse, or even Desoxyn if you can manage to find that) and methylphenidate (Ritalin, Focalin, Concerta) are both great and I've tried/been prescribed all of them besides Desoxyn.

Modafinil ain't no nootropic. I took piracetam for probably about 10 years though pretty regularly. Not bad stuff, really un-druglike, but it started getting weird a few years ago so I quit.
