>>

I prefer doing work in pencil as I'm prone to many mistakes. I do my notes, however, in pen.
>>
>>7920291
Doing it in pen is better for practice.
You have to know the steps and not make simple mistakes

Pen and lots of paper.

OP just go buy a 12 pack of these, they're the absolute best cheap-pen.
>>
>>7920291

I'm pragmatic. Homework definitely pencil; if I'm rewriting notes I use pen on decent quality paper.

Pilot C4 is GOAT for pen.

this
>>
>>7921179
dude the initial cost is no big deal

as long as its decently sized it'll all be worth it.

you can get boards at the dollar store.

even if it is expensive if you get it from staples, they're so much more convenient than paper for doing exercises on. and memorization.

ive been using my same whiteboard since 2008. its 1 foot by 3 feet. best thing ever.
>>
>>7921179
no, it doesnt have to be a whiteboard, even a piece of glass. in a bout of autism i dismantled a microwave that we were going to throw away and when i got to the glass cover, i tested a whiteboard marker on it, and lo and behold, a really fucking cool platform to write on

Complete plebtard detected.

I do math in a really dark pen and I have had to cross out entire pages of just incorrect work. That shit builds character. Everytime I open the book I have to quickly move to the page I last used so I always get to the see some of my mistakes as I pass the pages. That shit builds character. Everytime I see something crossed it makes me remember that once I was week. Once I was stupid but now I have overcome my shortcomings and now I know my shit. It is reminder for what I used to be and what I have become.

Pencil plebs never get this. This is why pencil plebs end up as spoiled childs. You never get punished for your mistakes.

Git gud, manbaby.

>>
I like using pencils for doing my work (mathematics) because I can scribble out things easily. I never use the eraser very much, but I use it for replacing one digit for another for example, so the erasers generally last fairly long. I haven't begun working on one subfield in particular yet so I don't feel confident enough to use a pen yet. I toy with notation a lot currently so pencils are invaluable imo
>>
They are so cheap I buy them in bulk.
>>
>>7920291
How is this even a question?
There's nothing you can do with a pen that you can't do with a pencil.

On the flip side you cannot erase pen but you can erase pencil.

Pencil is the superior choice.
>>
>>7921844
Get the Pental Twist Erase mech pencils. I use the .9 mm for math because it produces thick dark lines. Many prefer the .7 model because the lines are a bit smaller. The .9mm lead lasts a long time though. Typically 2-3 weeks of using it everyday in school I have to change a piece of lead.
>>
I pick pencil for two reasons.
1. I like having the ability to erase if I want to reword something in a proof or make a small error in computation.
2. I get anal about how my variables look, especially when they're Greek letters, and frequently erase them until they look good.

doesn't matter as long as you concentrate on what you are doing instead of how.
Being very anal about writing utensils might reveal your lack of motivation in math/science. You try to avoid confronting yourself by tackling seemingly relevant questions.
Just go and learn, it is a hard thing and nothing is going to ease it.

The Pentel P205 is the crowning achievement of 20th century writing utensil engineering.

I tried using a pen because of this thread, though. It was horrible. I make way to many stupid mistakes like -/+, or randomly writing a 3 instead of a 5, I'm too shit for pens.

Pencil, unless the work requires pen. Pencil can allow you to erase mistakes. In Pen you have to scribble a line through it. It wastes paper space.

I use pen because the only advantage that a pencil gives you, erasing, is a waste of time

If you make a mistake, draw one line through it and move on. It's faster.

Writing with a pencil and using the eraser feels like I'm trying to make a work of art or some shit. I don't care about that.

If i want to draw an accurate graph I use Excel. If I want to draw a picture it's going to look shitty no matter how much erasing I do. Pen it is.

Pencil for notes and scratch work.
LaTeX for solutions and papers.

I care far too much about good typography and design to be filling my pages with crossed out pen because of a slip of the pen in my work/notes.

I also use a whiteboard when I work through long exercise sets. I particularly like the whiteboard experience because it means I physically have to step away from the book and my notes and just rely on what I have in my head. This makes it easier to notice where I get stuck and where my potential knowledge gaps are. It also means I'm less likely to get distracted by other shit like related problems and generalizations.

>>7921878
Sounds like all you're getting good at is having really low standards for how good work should look.
>>
>>7922509

>>7920291

If it's good enough for Newton to scratch things, it's good enogh for me to scratch my notes. It's different with projects, labs, etc. Then LaTeX it is.

If you are a student, pencil.
If you are a graduate, pen/fountain pen.

If you are learning, you make a lot of mistakes. If you achieve master status, you just need to elaborate.
The same way that a sword with no tsuba is for one who mastered the art.
