Are you familiar with QFT and GR?
If so, get a stringy book like BBS (http://www.galaktiskeparti.no/PDF%20files/String%20Theory%20and%20M-Theory%20A%20Modern%20Introduction~tqw~_darksiderg.pdf), and a loopy book like Rovelli (http://www.cpt.univ-mrs.fr/~rovelli/book.pdf).
If you want a non-technical intro, look at Three Roads to Quantum Gravity, and The Elegant Universe.
