any ee's in here?

can't figure this out for the life of me.

each resistor is 7 ohms. source voltage is 32 volts. What is Ix?

nodal analysis

[math] I_x = \frac { V } { R_1 + R_2 \frac { R_3 + \frac { R_4 R_5 } { R_4 + R_5 } } { R_2 + R_3 + \frac { R_4 R_5 } { R_4 + R_5 } } } [/math]
>>
>>7796097
how did you simplify everything into this equation? did you use some kind of resource?
>>
Simplify all the resistors into Rtotal then Ix=Vs/Rtotal
>>
2.857 A
>>
If current can split into one resistor or another, then the resistors are in parallel. If the current must go into more than one resistor, then the resistors are in series. Combine into one resistor and use ohm's law. Or use nodal/mesh analysis and solve a bunch of equations.

>>
Actually you don't even have to be an electronic engineer to solve that circuit. Just apply Ohm's low.
(High school student here)
>>
>>7796052
I would create a Thevenin Equivalent circuit and solve from there.

I love TE.
>>
>>7796097
Nice. I'd just do it step by step using intermediate values instead.
>>
>>7796306
TE in and of itself won't help you much, you'd still need to find the equivalent resistance value, which is actually all you need to do.
>>
>>7796348
Fair enough.
>>
>>7796134
you need an intro to circuits class and to not be mathematically retarded.
>>
>>7796052

[math]Ix= \frac{V}{R_1+\frac{1}{\frac{1}{R_2}+\frac{1}{R_3}+\frac{1}{\frac{1}{R_4}+\frac{1}{R_5}}}}[/math]

This is highschool tier stuff m8
>>
>>7796052
The equalent resistor is 7.28 Ohm and using Ohm's law the current is calculated to 4.4 A
>>
>>7797823
This. I remember doing it in 9th grade.
>>
>>7798177
(((R5||R4)+R3)||R2)+R1
I get 11.2 Ω and 2.857 A
hmm..

EE reporting in. If you can't even handle basic circuit analysis like this you should just drop out. You won't make it if you can't even find the current of such an easy problem.
>>
>>7798262
You are right I miscalculated the parallel resistors by instead of (R1*R2)/(R1+R2) did (R1+R2)/(R1*R2)
2.857A is the correct answer

Am I retarded if I had to redraw it to figure it out?

Kill yourself. Honestly, you're the worst kind of person. Not everyone can analyze circuits easily, especially in someones first circuits class. Fuck off and die.

He's right, though. If you had even tried googling how to solve this type of problem, you probably would have encountered an identical or at least very similar problem. You could have searched for any of several hundred flash or java circuit simulators, and simply let the computer solve it for you. Hell, you could go old school and crack open any basic electronics textbook and figure out how to solve this problem after reading the first chapter. Assuming you're in school, you have teachers and TAs you could email or talk to in person who would be glad to help you figure out this problem. But no, instead, you're going to post a shitty homework thread on /sci/ and bitch when someone tells you you're retarded instead of wasting their time to hold your hand and work through the problem for you.

>>7798523

In general, no. But with this one it's easy to keep track without doing so since it's always the same part being simplified: R4+R5->R45 +R3->R345 +R2->R2345 + R1->Rtotal

Easy shit is easy. I'm sorry that the real world doesn't reinforce your illusion of being a special snowflake. And no, I'm not saying that because I'm jealous or afraid of you.

is the chain infinite?
Z = 2R + (1/R + 1/Z)^-1
results in a quadratic equation you can solve for Z.
>>
>>7799242

Rt=R±√R^2+2R^2 = R(1+√3)
