Hey /sci/entists.
My wife is under the impression that she needs to squeeze out any kids she wants by or before age 30 ish as, she believes, the likelihood of birthing an autist increases by some percent every year she waits longer.
Have you ever heard or seen anything of this nature? I can imagine why this might be the case but she has shown little evidence to support the claim.

You could just google this one, you know?
But your wife is correct, as a woman ages the chances of her eggs producing fucked up kids is increased. The same goes for your sperm as you age.
However, a kid at 30 won't necessarily be autistic. Just know that every year you add a 0.01% chance for it to be autistic, or to develop any other problem.

I don't know about autism, but the likelihood of birthing a kid with downs syndrome increases with the age of both parents, but is more strongly correlated with maternal age at conception.

I know, and I appreciate the input, I know you guys aren't my personal research team, just curious if anyone else actually took those statistics seriously or if it was a bending of the truth.
Is there a particular reason for this though? Should we all be reproducing at a younger age? It makes me wonder because women and men can donate eggs and sperm for later use, do those facilities take age into account?
Again sorry, don't know who else to discuss this with.
