Neuroscientists would not be making the AI. Their research would be used to make the AI.
At the degree of complexity such that advanced machine learning and neural networking are the subject matters, computer science and math are interchangeable. Theoretical computer science is pure math, read any complexity theory lecture notes to see.

Just go into hotel management, hotels would most likely need AIs in the next ten years. They are the best of the best when it comes to hotels, no one, no dumb computer scientist, mechanical engineer can do better than them when it comes to meeting a hotel's needs such as elevators, computer AI management, computer AI creation and application. It's truly the gemstone of degrees, definitely you should give it a try, i originally had my skepticism but it actually works. But now all my friends hate me because it just so happens that i'm earning much more than them in less time and less effort. 10/10 in my opinion if you want to create AIs for hotels, definitely this is the best choice

No because theoretical computer science is quite distinct from the fundamentals of computer science and EE you learn in undergrad CS. Any respectable theoretical computer science course is of a graduate level

anyone implying one field is enough dont know what they are saying. modern AI are multidisciplinary projects, no engineering marvels were constructed without a team of experts from different fields. you cannot make the next big AI on your own, sorry real life isnt that romantic

first off if your serious, your gonna need a team or like minded individuals to help share ideas with, then some University, company, or govenrment to support such a project that would be in the millions

For the personal aspect:
PhD in Computer Science
Masters in Apllied Mathematics
PhD in Neruscience + 5 years of research

Assuming yo get all those in 25 years and have a team and funding, it's gonna take about hhhmm 5 years of trial and error to produce a prototype for Animal AI, and 60 years for Human AI (implying you can surpas a 10 year Olds intelect)

I don't see how you can literally produce an AI that has the same intelect as a human (ability to question, self awarness, advance logic structure) alone or without dedicating half of your life to, but hell who knows we might make drugs that boost IQ in the future and science fiction will be a thing of the past lol
