I browse both, /his/ is a gazillion times better. I believe it is because STEM is much more hierarchical. To have any serious scientific knowledge you must either be a student or a professional whereas with humanities you can just read a few books in your spare time. Basically the gap between academic history and pop history is much smaller than the gap between academic science and pop science. This means that /sci/ tends to revolve around studying and academic achievement because that is all anyone knows so far whereas on /his/ anyone who has read a few Rome books can give a decent discourse on Caesar or whatever. Add into this the fact that history careers are basically nonexistent there is an opposite culture where academics are actually laughed at and shouted down.

tl;dr academic dickwaving is the problem of /sci/

It is not constructive to anything and creates a hypocritical hostile atmosphere where anyone attempting to discuss something that is actually within the board's skill level is shouted down as "babby tier". The reason why research isn't discussed here more often is that it is very time-consuming to get into a new topic, even in your general area if work, so in order to have an intelligent conversation here about something high-level you have to either run into someone else who already does what you do or sped some time and effort reading up, which no one wants to do while fucking around on 4chan.

Cool, I didn't know there was a history board. I'm taking history next semester and will use that board for homework help. Basically the same thing I did with /sci/ and Math homework.

Discussions are actually a minor part of science, because in the end it all boils down to either experiment or logical proof. In real science, we try to limit human opinion as much as possible because in the end, thats what helped scientific discovery the most and thats why we are superior to humanities.

Took the words right out of my mouth. /his/ is great right now because of the topic. I used to go to /lit/ for /his/ discussions, but /lit/ is 90% talking about the authors and book recommendations so I wouldn't find many interesting discussions. I only come to /sci/ because I'm an engineer and feel obligated to post here occasionally.
