Post math problems from your country universities' entrance exam.

yeah, but you forgot to mention students take it after two years of tertiary education

france is based though
>>

There are virtually no entrance requirements in my country (besides not being a HS-dropout). Any idiot can study math.

If you do well in high school, you get straight in.
>>
>>7732061
so how do they select the students who go to the most prestigious universities?
>>
>>7732088
Any university is the same at undergrad level p much
>>
>>7732088
>most prestigious universities
There are no good or bad universities in Germany. They are all mediocre.
>>
>>7732093
>>7732098
that makes me feel a little bad for the excellent students

i guess in the end they can just self-study the hard stuff they want to, but still...
>>
>>7732104
It is good for them aswell. What if an excellent student don't want to travel to the capital, where the "top" universities are?
>>
>>7732104
Yeah it sucks. You can have all A* in your A-Levels (Abitur) and you get put in the same course as someone who barely passes High School.
I'll try to apply at an UK university after I finish my A-Levels next year. Hope they don't leave the EU before that or shit gets complicated.
>>
>>7732105
that'd be his personal choice, and he could just apply to the local university
it seems to me like a lot of excellent students wouldn't think like that
>>
>>7732061
So what's the selection criteria?
>>
>>7732036
University is completely free here in Argentina. Free from paying and entrance exam.

If there are more applications than places they literally ONLY take the average of your high school grades.

Suppose there is a math course with 1 free place.
>Person 1: A in math, D in literature
>Person 2: C in math, A in literature
Person 2 will have get the offer because his average grade is higher. Welcome to the German Numerus-Clausus system.
>>
>>7732141
Interesting.
>>
>>7732137
Well I guess what i mean by free university is that you don't have to pay any fees to attend classes, take examans and get a degree. Of course, there are some costs that are on you.
I thought it could also mean that it is irrestricted, or that you don't have to aprrove an exam to enter it, you can just start it.
Don't really see where I went wrong there.
>>
>>7732159
It's cost free for the user, but everyone pays for it through taxes, specially if the entrance is irrestricted
>>
>>7732170
Of course, but you know what I meant. Dont have to be so fucking edgy meme-like

It's not edgy meme-like. People who don't go to university, and in most countries they're usually the poor, are funding the universities the middle class uses.

When people don't pay for their own education, the incentives are all wrong. Students mind much less dropping out or graduating late since they are not paying a penny. Also there's no pressure on the universities to get better since their funding is guaranteed. Cost-free education is a joke.

I don't think you've thought this through. Or maybe your sour grapes are showing.

Students don't mind as much graduating late: yes, this is true. And how exactly is this a problem? It gives them the opportunity to really learn something besides the minimum required to graduate, to study more challenging topics, and to generally make the most of what's available. As opposed to systems where the students pay through the nose and thus will sacrifice anything and everything to be done with it as soon as possible.

Of course there is an incentive for universities to be as good as they possibly can be. Because the education is free for students, students go to a *good* university; there is no financial motive for them to go to a poor one, remember. If a university is shit, students won't go there, and the university doesn't get funding.
>>
>>7732209
Costly education is a joke. Professors give you A+++ only so that you feel better and give money to them.
>>
>>7732088

By how much money they have. The richer ones go to the prestigious schools while the poor ones either don't graduate high school or go to middle tier to low tier schools.

Can someone share knowledge about Energy being in a positive state and staying positive when using it against the rule of math? Especially when applying it to math that delves into negative numbers...
>>
No entry tests in the Netherlands here for the best Math degree in the country. You should hold a high school diploma from the highest high school level and a C in Math. After that it's all up to you, 60% drops out in the first year.
>>
>>7732583
I'm >>7732061
80%+ drop out rate. We don't even need a C in math. We just need to pass high school and that's it - you can get to any German university you want.
>>
Just wanted to thank the anon who recommended me to apply to UChicago early action, even though I'm an international student and requested a fuckton of aid. Thank you anon, sincerely.
>>
No entrance exams in Denmark. When there's more applicants than than the degree than available spaces for students, the average HS grades are considered. Last year, the lowest average grade was equivalent to a C.
You can gen into the best university for engineering with a D average for some degrees.

There are 3 maths entrance exams for Bong universities that I know of.
The first is the MAT which requires less knowledge than the other 2 and only Oxford uses, mostly geometry and calculus: https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/system/files/attachments/test15_0.pdf

The second is the AEA, which requires higher knowledge than the MAT and not many universities use because it isnt very good, its pretty much standard bong exam questions with a twist:
http://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/Advanced%20Extension%20Award/Mathematics/2013/Exam%20materials/Question-paper-Paper-1-June-2014.pdf

Then theres the STEP, organised by cambridge that all the other best universities use. Theres the STEP I and II which both require standard bong school knowledge, II being harder than I, and STEP III which requires knowledge well beyond standard bong schooling which is used for mature students:
STEP I: https://3110b3b48cdc993f8fb622042e2ffa4f00a024fe.googledrive.com/host/0B1ZiqBksUHNYMTZlRm1iQnJPTWs/Papers/2015%20STEP%201.pdf
STEP II:https://3110b3b48cdc993f8fb622042e2ffa4f00a024fe.googledrive.com/host/0B1ZiqBksUHNYMTZlRm1iQnJPTWs/Papers/2015%20STEP%202.pdf
STEP III:https://3110b3b48cdc993f8fb622042e2ffa4f00a024fe.googledrive.com/host/0B1ZiqBksUHNYMTZlRm1iQnJPTWs/Papers/2015%20STEP%203.pdf
>>
>>7732088
They accept anyone as an undergrad, then have like a 50% dropout rate during the first year.

Sure during the first year the lecture halls are a little crowded, but it gets much better after the first year.
>>
>>7732821
What STEP exams would I need if I apply right after high school? I, II or Both?
Would I get bonus points if I do STEP III without being a mature student?

This is the math exam for people who are applying for engineering programmes in Finland. There's also a physics and chemistry exam.

Those with the best score gets accepted, simple as that. I like our system because it focuses on relevant knowledge and not some bullshit.
>>
Wtf France, you make me feel like a stupid fuck, how is that for entrance to uni?
>>
>>7733606
I don't attend lyon 1 but I'm at the ens lyon (and occasionally go to lyon 1 for conferences)
>>
>>7733776
Not for uni, it is for engineering school, but after (atl least) two years of study, so it would be entrance exams for the third year of bachelor
Anyway it is still hard, but the ones which were posted are exams for the most selective schools (ENS Ulm and Ecole Polytechnique)
>>
>>7732897
Depends, for a mid tier uni you might just need STEP I, but most people going into mod-high tier unis go for both STEP I and II
Obviously you would get a much higher chance of getting into any uni you wanted if you managed to get a good score on III, but its not expected of you and you're very unlokely to get a good score as you probably wouldn't have the free time to study all the material
>>
>>7732821
>>7732897
I should also mention that unlike most other entrance exams, out of the many questions in the paper you only have to answer 6 and you will only be marked on 6, there are no mandatory questions
>>
>>7733706
Can you post solutions?
>>
>>7734240
You cant solve them?
>>
>>7732036
There is no required entrance exam but there is a common curses for different careers, for example most STEM (except biology which is dumbed down for some reason) share the same first year in which they see calc 2/some baby linear algebra , physics and chemistry (and 2 humanities courses) These courses aren't hard per se but filter out A LOT of people.
>>
>>7732929
>>7732930
This is pretty smart tbqh, make the people learn for themselves the first years so you get qualified people and you dont have to put a single cent for it . Its a win win.
>>
>>7734822
well it's pretty expensive for the state to pay for all the oral preparation and stuff. (this is also why it's criticized in frogland most of the time).

But considering the much superior graduation rate (vs regular university graduation rate), this actually saves money.

This thread is a picture of everything that's wrong with this board.

>>
>>7735899
But it's literally what they are.
It's just that these particular unis recruit at second year undergrad level.
>>
who fucking cares
I'm in Eastern Europe and the entrance exam was piss easy because most of the smart kids leave the country to study physics (but you need to aford the cost of living, which I don't) so they need to have students to get le money from the State. But the uni is fucking based in teaching physics, the shit that we've done so far I find in second year courses in West and I haven't even finished my first semester. Yes, many students are very weak, some borderline retarded, but there are also some very smart guys here, went to CERN for students and that other shit for students in Russia, so yeah.
>>
>>7732061
