Might be a really stupid question, but i've always wanted to ask. What would happen here?

Surely you'd never make it to the other side. Once you pass the centre, gravity would pull you back towards the centre again, so you'd just oscillate about the centre until you eventually come to a halt in the middle.
>>
>>7714934
Add an Initial Velocity to the equation desu senpai............. Prob die but you would get to the other half.
>>
>>7714951
kek, I need to sleep.
>>
Not really clear what the second picture is supposed to show, but gravity at the center of the Earth is zero, if that somehow answers your question.
>>
>>7714922
Let us assume a few things:
The planet you are stading on is of uniform density, you are somehow able to survive whatever heat there is along the way, there is no air resistance to your fall.

Basically, what would happen at the center is that you would feel a unifor pull from gravity on all sides. This would give the sensation of weightlessness. No, gravity would not necessarily "crush you". But, realisitcally, the pressures at the center of the earth could, but, for this example, you are jumping through a vacuum.

You should pretty much just come out the other side. There will be a weird feeling of orientation flipping as you pass through the several mile leading up to and following you passing through the planet core, but nothing too eventful otherwise.
>>
>>7714922
Once you reached the center, every part of you would be pulled in all directions by 1/2 Earth's gravity, which would cancel out so you wouldn't feel anything and would seem weightless as long as you stayed near the center, but the further you got from the core the more difficult it would be to climb out to the other side.
>>
>>7714947
If you "jump" into the hole, wouldn't the only initial velocity be zero since gravity is doing all the work? It's not like you're using some sort of thruster to propel yourself into the Earth.
>>
>>7714922
While inside the Earth, radial away from the center the force due to gravity increases linearly. This is opposed to inversely by 1/r^2. To see this, consider that the amount of total mass pulling you toward the center that is NOT canceled by the mass pulling away from the center increases by a rate of r^3, ie the sphere. This gives r^3/r^2 or r, linear.

So what would happen? Well the force would be attractive and linear. You sir would have yourself a harmonic oscillator. Well, for uniform density and such. The angular frequency would be sqrt GM/R^3 with R being the radius of the earth.
>>
If you jump, make sure you don't touch any walls, otherwise you're gonna have a bad time.
>>
>>7714922
Yes, you would be crushed, there's a lot of pressure in the core senpai.

>>7714934
Well ignoring drag and other such forces:
>Fall towards the core
>Acceleration decrease as you get closer to the core
>Acceleration is 0 at the core
>You still have linear momentum
>You will continue to move away from the core
>Reach the other side
>Leave through hole.
>>
>>7714922
A corollary: has anyone ever been deeper than just the Earth's crust?
>>
assuming vacuum like conditions, you would appear on the other side.
>>
you’d also have to assume the earth isn’t spinning when you jump and while you fall OR that someone somehow speeds up the earth to match your angular velocity, or you’ll become the world’s longest smear
>>
Why is everyone saying you'd appear on the other side? Wouldn't you just appear *near* the other hole, stop there, and eventually go back, resulting in oscilating until you end up in total center?
>>
>>7714934
you would reach the other side if theres no drag and the elevation is the same .
>>7714922
how would you be crushed by gravity ? the matter that pulls you is all around you so you're be pulled equally in all directions so basically you'd feel no gravity .

if you're right at the center your left hand and right hand would be pulled in different directions but on the scale of the earth vs the scale of your body you wouldnt feel any of it .
>>
>>7714922
are you retarded? you would obviously just float there
>>
>>7715378
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kola_Superdeep_Borehole
1/3 of the way is the deepest we've been and shit already starts getting all liquid there .
>>
What if two people jump in from both sides at the same time? And hitting each other isn't a factor. Would it make a diffrence?
>>
>>7714922
No, you can only use the center of mass / center of anything approximation method outside the actual body. Compare it with electrodynamics where you can use the point charge approximation for a charged sphere if you're outside the sphere, but when you're inside you need to solve integrals and such. So it is in this case.
>>
In a perfect world with no air friction, and assuming you didn't scrape the side of the hole, you should make it all the way to the othet side and pop out from the height you jumped in. But you would only come out if side B was the same or less sea level then side A. However because there is air friction and terminal velocity and stuff, you would make it almost to side B then start falling back to side A and go back and forth through eternity until you slow down enough to stop in the middle.
To answer the question if you would be crushedby gravity. No. I would assume gavity inside the center of a body is similar to the electric field lines. And as you got closer to the middle the net gravitational force on your body would approach zero and you would feel weightlessness.
