>we need more women in leadership roles

arstechnica.com/science/2015/11/former-nasa-official-nasa-must-shed-socialist-approach-to-space-exploration/
>>
>>7676824
Then tell those bitches to take a STEM major instead of "womyn's studies" ffs
>>
>>7676829
Why is this even a thing ? If women wanna go STEM, they can just do it. What is this social pressure on women that try to push them into STEM instead of whatever they wanna study ?
>>
>>7676824
Half the women in my graduating class stopped working after marrying another engineer or doctor.

30% did retarded shit like au pairing minimum wage kekery.

15% actually worked in engineering for while and have since quit to do finance/management type jobs.

There's only 1 girl in my graduating class who got into engineering management.

I'm very grateful for the push of women into engineering because the professional is already oversaturated as is and if they all entered the economy we would be fucked.
>>
We actually need more women who are not bullshit.
>>
>>7676834
Guilt and outside pressure. Outside groups with nothing to do with STEM have decided that not enough girls are involved.

And sure, 10% of women are probably talented and interested in STEM, but these people expect 50% to be, and are pressuring girls into taking it. It's going to turn out like a STEM equivalent of the dotcom bubble.

Loads of people encouraged to take subjects they have no real interest in and suddenly there is an excess in talent that end up working at walmart.
>>
>>7676834
Some would argue there's a system in place that encourages women to study womyn's studies over engineering.
>>
>>7676887
But what if they wanna do something else ? What if they wanna be a painter, or a historian, or an actor, or a pornstar, or something else. Why aren't they allowed to choose whatever they want to be ?
>>
>>7676887
some would also argue that the holocaust never happened..
>>
>>7676892
it did tho. even though the evidence is kinda flimsy, you can learn about it in armenian holocaust museums
>>
>>7676834
Has anybody ever witnessed "social pressure" on women to go in stem? Nobody ever pressures any individuals here.
>>
>>7676887
With some observation of how girls--especially in secondary schools--treat math and sciences, I think its fair to say that there is some system discouraging them from STEM.

However, I think the implied or stated arbitrary benchmark of 50% representation is misguided.
>>
>>7676899
that's the point. theres no real evidence for these oppressive systems, just idiots that think equallity and equity are the same thing, and that societal representation should be equal to workforce representation

>>7676824

I'm wondering what kicked off the trend.
>>
>>7676824
The article talks about gubmint centralization and muh geographical return though. No mention of stem women
>>
>>7676834
The real problem is their parents raise them badly.

They treat them like princesses all their lives then when it comes down to competing against men in almost any field they get slaughtered because they were never pushed to improve themselves and were handed everything.

Most women are allowed to do whatever they like so naturally they will choose things that aren't very difficult or have a social aspect to them since women are naturally inclined to work in things with high social interaction like teaching, nursing.

We need to change how our daughters are raised COMPLETELY and this is why I say that the women alive today are lost for the most part, but future women are the ones that have a chance at becoming great scientists and engineers.
>>
>>7676834
It's funny you asked this. The pressure for more women in STEM fields comes almost exclusively from women who majored in things like "womyn's studies", or focused on a liberal arts degree.
>>
Or not, shall I remind you that once in a month women become unreasonable. If you think I am exagerating, women can be absolved due to this in some cases.
>>
>>7676942
I was pointing out the cretin woman saying that shit
>>
>>7676834
>What is this social pressure on women that try to push them into STEM instead of whatever they wanna study ?

>twice the people apply for the same job
>wages drop massively

r&d is extremely expensive and big companies are inhuman, bureaucratic tumors. how is this news to you?
>>
>>7676824
If women had the interest, I think a good deal of them could offer something significant and be a net benefit.

They're stuck at a catch 22 though with this whole plan. Women won't go into stem on their own, and women who aren't in stem don't raise or create women who are prone to pursuing it themselves. So they're trying to force it.

I don't have kids or siblings. I suppose it's no real surprise the presence of a more scientifically minded father isn't apt to influence a daughter to pursue the same. Has to be the mother.
>>
Someone has to make and raise the children. Most STEM jobs aren't very forgiving when you have a sick kid, daycare won't take them in and you either have a partner with an equally unforgiving job or no partner. While there are laws to protect against unfavorable treatment to mothers, there are plenty of firing loopholes that can and will be exploited. Women can only have babies for so long and the older they get, the higher chance there is for these children to have genetic problems like downs syndrome. It's too bad that prime birthing age coincides with college age and early career age (the part of the career that requires the most dedication and leaves you with little room for else if you don't want to stagnate and get replaced). Things like maternity leave, leave of absence for pregnancy related issues, and leave of absence for child related reasons all remove a woman's ability to move ahead or even stay current in a STEM field. They could trust another person to raise their kid for them, but that's a crapshoot and putting your child at risk.
>>
>>7676890
What's the harm in a social push. We need a society based on science and reasearch. Even if people don't like it at first, it should be shoveled at them.

It's the world we live in; it's our now and our future. People should be obligated to learn science.

I love fishing, I'd fish all day if I could. Am I a productive member of society if I say "I love fishing. I love it more than sciece, therfore I won't science". Fuck what people want to do. That;s bullshit and they're a waste of resources.

Become an active member in science or be eliminated

Oh god what a repulsive childish douche you are. I would bet 50$ you are NDT fan
>>
>>7677190
>I was pointing out the cretin woman saying that shit
Holy shit, you're fucking stupid.

You really think the best thing for America's future in space is to hobble the private industry that's running circles around NASA and making rapid progress toward reusable, manned, and heavy-lift vehicles at a tiny fraction of the cost?

Companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Firefly are the future. SLS/Orion is embarassingly blatant pork.
>>
>>7676919
>I think its fair to say that there is some system discouraging them from STEM.
Yeah, it's called the endocrine system; it discourages them from things which will interfere with their ability to have and raise children.

>I would bet 50$ if I had 50$

NASA has bloat due to diversity requirements

SpaceX, a private company, is not required to do this so they just hire whoever can get the job done as good and quickly as possible.

Nasa is quickly being overtaken by spacex because they're mostly men who get shit done.
>>
>>7676960
>but future women are the ones that have a chance at becoming great scientists and engineers.
Worry about them having enough babies to support our population long term before you worry about them becoming scientists.

>Education is generally geared toward women from day 1 at school
Gee, I wonder why they're doing so well?

here's the root cause of this bullshit.

a woman denying women prefer jobs such as teaching, medicine, child care
claiming they don't have the 'confidence' to go into STEM.
while she herself, as an activist claiming this, is also ironically a teacher.

as if to prove Milo's point.

>>
>>7676960

I believe it can become more complex than that.

Previous generations have been mostly men in STEM, and as academia opened up for women, there have been few, but increasingly role models for young women.
Added to the princess-raising

Even when daughters are raised in a completely neutral way, the effect of past generations may have an influence, and there might be effects in future generations, unless super conservative parties take over.

That's the BLS. What bullshit are you spewing? Women choose "equality" in jobs in offices. If you want equality go pick up a shovel or hammer. The trades want women but women don't want to get dirty. This whole equality movement will die by 2020. The boomers tried and failed. Millennials will be the same. Most millennials are in their 20s so they have a lot of free time. Wait until your 30s when you have bills, kids, and job. Equality won't mean shit to you. Also women who have kids are fired because you cost a business money being absent. Its cheaper to hire a new one, than keep you on the payroll. Find a nice guy who will shoot a load into your snatch for a home and food.
>>
>>7678414
I stated, quite literally, "equivalency doesn't exist." ie, it's an illusion. It cannot exist, and it's not even a decent ideal.

I see how my wording is being misinterpreted, but I guess it goes to show how interpretation works based on expectation. Sorry for not being clear and rilin' ya.

>knowing these girls will also take the jobs you want because you were born with the wrong genitals.
Dude, anyone that actually thinks these women will be taking any jobs is retarded.

They're going to take some at first but since they're less useful than a bag of rocks it's only a matter of time before they get fired or the company goes under due to not being able to sustain all the bloat it's acquired.
>>
In my master level maths courses it's like 40-50% women.

I actually think that there is also peer pressure for boys to go into engineering. Somehow it is seen as not masculine to study say literature or to become a teacher or so.
>>
>>7679316
pure science has always been open to women. Engineering is the only one with this problem. The field is run by the same retards you meet on 4chan. Their sperglord logic chase away women. Its not uncommon to meet a virgin engineer. It is uncommon to meet math/physics/bio/chem virgin. Engineering is just filled with neckbeard fedoras.
>>
There is a large amount of social pressure put on girls who are seniors in high school or 1-2 years out of high school to take a more feminine path. You can't really force someone to enjoy the math, programming or physics that goes along with a STEM major...it just kind of, well, happens at least for me it did. We don't need more women in leadership roles, we need more leaders in leadership roles.

>What is this social pressure on women that try to push them into STEM instead of whatever they wanna study ?

Behold the great irony of feminism. Since the push to stop pressuring women to become housewives, this political movement now has now resorted to pressuring women to become ambitious scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. So feminism is pretty much a sterotypical asian parent who wants their child to be doctor now.
