Half the women in my graduating class stopped working after marrying another engineer or doctor.

They treat them like princesses all their lives then when it comes down to competing against men in almost any field they get slaughtered because they were never pushed to improve themselves and were handed everything.

They're stuck at a catch 22 though with this whole plan. Women won't go into stem on their own, and women who aren't in stem don't raise or create women who are prone to pursuing it themselves. So they're trying to force it.

I don't have kids or siblings. I suppose it's no real surprise the presence of a more scientifically minded father isn't apt to influence a daughter to pursue the same. Has to be the mother.

Someone has to make and raise the children. Most STEM jobs aren't very forgiving when you have a sick kid, daycare won't take them in and you either have a partner with an equally unforgiving job or no partner. While there are laws to protect against unfavorable treatment to mothers, there are plenty of firing loopholes that can and will be exploited. Women can only have babies for so long and the older they get, the higher chance there is for these children to have genetic problems like downs syndrome. It's too bad that prime birthing age coincides with college age and early career age (the part of the career that requires the most dedication and leaves you with little room for else if you don't want to stagnate and get replaced). Things like maternity leave, leave of absence for pregnancy related issues, and leave of absence for child related reasons all remove a woman's ability to move ahead or even stay current in a STEM field. They could trust another person to raise their kid for them, but that's a crapshoot and putting your child at risk.
