IT'S OVER ALREADY

NOTHING

THEY FOUND NOTHING
>>
>The findings did not totally rule out the occurrence of alien communications - only that they may be weaker than what SETI is currently able to detect
ayyy lmaos still possible
>>
>There were people seriously expecting aliens
>>
>>7649453
Pls just stop. They're not there or if they are they don't wanna talk to us. Let it go.
>>
>>7649432
I feel bad for the people who live for shilling other's research.

Like seriously, why? When the alien thing came from there and now the EM drive, somehow a swarm of retards come wanting to talk about the topic and shill it to death like zombies and I don't get it.

Why are you so excited about someone else's research. Why not conduct your own research and be excited about that?

And btw do not think excited means interested. If you are interested about something you would like a sound and calm discussion about it. But here people literally start making memes and murdering each other if their opinions about "the thing" do not match. Pepes and Wojaks thrown everywhere to show their emotional investment. Anyways, as I said, interest and excitement is not the same thing.

Seriously, get a hobby.
>>
>>7649466
you sound mad
>>
>>7649466
>why would people get excited about finding aliens?

On a scale of 1 to chris chan how autistic are you?
>>
>>7649432
Has Seti scanned most of the universe for intelligence life?
>>
>>7649432
>implying SETI would know what an ayy signal looks like
>implying ayys shoot out EM signals to try and contact other lifeforms
>>
>>7649456
this
>>
>>7649486
If they're building some kind of dyson structure they're not exactly being stealthy or trying to not attract attention.
>>
>believing in aliens without a shred of evidence to support that line of thought other than "it's likely"
Although even that is BS because we have only a single sample. If you used a single sample in any scientific study and used that to extrapolate and make strongly assertive implications about an unbelievably massive population, even those online journals where you pay to publish would reject your shit.
>>
>>7649474
I should ask that to you.

Lets say that NASA found aliens in kic whatever.
Now what?
What is of your life?
The same as before. There is no way we could reliably communicate with them as to make their finding significant. Not only is the distance a problem but also the fact that they do not speak anything like us.

Seriously the entire article would be:
Scientists find aliens. That's all.

And then, the next week a new article would say:
Now that aliens have finally been found, half of NASA´s budget has been cut out by congress because they no longer need to keep paying their popsci team.

What significance would finding aliens bring is my question for you.

Explain your excitement.
>>
>>7649497
>What significance would finding aliens bring is my question for you.

fedora's think it would destroy religion or something.
>>
>>7649497
>>Lets say that NASA found aliens in kic whatever.
>Now what?
>What is of your life?
People would be excited for the same reason they'd be excited watching the first man walk on the moon. Contain your flaming autistic rage.
>>
>>7649502
> the first man walk on the moon
Are you stupid?
I mean it, are you retarded?

Sending a man to the moon makes sense. You know why?
Because that man can come down back with new knowledge that we didn't have before. We learned from the moon landing and we are still learning today from the data they collected.

But if aliens were found the only new thing we would know would be that aliens exist. That's all. It is not ground breaking.

ah well we'll know more in 2 years anyway, at least regarding what causes the dips

spectrograph analysis due when?
>>
>>7649509
>Because that man can come down back with new knowledge that we didn't have before.
And we would have knowledge we didn't have before- the fact that we would now know for sure we're not entirely alone in the entire universe. Even if nothing else would come of it for thousands of years, it would still be a remarkable moment in history and people would be excited to have it happen in their own lifetimes.

Are humans just a bizarre creature to you? Do you have a hard time understanding other people?
>>
>>7649515
Don't feed the troll
>>
>>7649509
>come down back with new knowledge
>if aliens were found the only new thing we would know would be that aliens exist
>the megastructure building aliens
I don't think you've thought this one through. At the very least it would indicate the Great Filter was behind us.
>>
>>7649515
What is the point of ticking one box in the checklist of knowledge if no new part of it will be revealed from it.

Specially if it is something like this. And to let you know that you are stupid, just remember these news about aliens are never true because the scientists behind these investigations never have "find space memes" as their research goal. When anyone working for a space agency reports something that is not "normal" it is the media that turns that into aliens.

It is just food given to the cattle like you so that you keep giving them your money. If any actual researcher, an actual PhD, where to mention "ayyliums" in his research paper then that person would be mocked by the scientific community for being retarded. He would never get a job again and would have to be living with his mom just like people like you.
>>
>>7649527
Here's your (You)
>>
>>7649527
You know, you are right. It doesn't matter.

I tried to show you with my first post that instead of having an interest in popsci you could get an interest in actual science, learn, get a degree and then do your own research and be emotional about that, be invested in that of your own creation instead of a manufactured headline.

But as you people have shown, some people will never learn. Just like you people here on /sci/ do no more than discuss popsci topics that are literal lies, there are actual grad students and PhDs here doing actual student. There are people with jobs in engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc. People who have something they can call their own.

But you don't want any of that. You just want more ayyliums and "EM drive topkek scientists got BTFO!" so I say live and let live.
>>
>>7649527
What was the point of anyone ever caring about finding the first exoplanet? I mean, it'll never affect us anyway, so who cares?
>>
>>7649553
Another retard. You know this is a logical phallacy right? The two things are not equivalent.

From finding the first exoplanet we proved new methods by which we could indirectly observe massive objects. This is of course, knowledge that can then be re-used for finding similar objects and also built upon to dig even deeper into the cosmos.

Again, I ask. What would be learn by finding ayyliums literal light years away other than "ayyliums exist".

>>7649483
No.
>>
>>7649557
And I'm sure being able to find methods to detect any possible structures can't possibly ever be used for anything else.
>>
>>7649563
>Quick I'm running out of arguments!
>Oh right there, a grammatical mistake!
>We definitely won this one guys. Now back to /b/ to fap to some nice trap porn.
>>
>>7649566
Aliens are structures now?
What is your argument here? This is not about the dyson sphere or whatever, this is only about the ayyliums and the retards surrounding their popsci articles.
>>
>>7649557
>From finding the first exoplanet we proved new methods by which we could indirectly observe massive objects. This is of course, knowledge that can then be re-used for finding similar objects and also built upon to dig even deeper into the cosmos.
How does this affect or benefit you personally in any way?

>>7649569
Finding some sort of dyson structure would also mean we've proven alien life at some point existed somewhere to create it.
>>
>no signal is picked up after first pass

and they would find radio signals why?

why do people think life would communicate via this
>>
>>7649575
>How does this affect or benefit you personally in any way?

Easy answer. When the scientists publish their findings I could read and learn about it and then explore how they came to the conclusion that their method would work. This would better my own reasoning skills thus making me smarter and able to solve harder problems.

>Finding some sort of dyson structure would also mean we've proven alien life at some point existed somewhere to create it.
But I am not talking about the dyson sphere. I'm talking about the ayyliums!

And proving that alien life existed is the smallest finding we would get. The actual knowledge we would acquire by finding the dyson sphere would be that it would actually work if we made one and then we could try observing it to get a rough idea of what was made so that when the time comes and our technology reaches that point, we can make a Dyson sphere that is better than theirs because we would have hundreds of years of research about it.

You ayylium shills really think small.

>This would better my own reasoning skills thus making me smarter and able to solve harder problems.
Holy shit he really is autistic
>>
If they are ayy lmao, then their sphere would be masked to look like a natural event. Its like alien version of stealth. I don't think you want anyone to know you're mining energy from your star. Its goes against your survival instincts. But I knew it was some new natural phenomenon we haven't observed before.

>>7649592

Don't worry, such comments don't hurt me. You people really are only about memes.

>THEY FOUND NOTHING

They only ruled out omnidirectional (Or Earth-pointed) transmissions with terawatt levels of power. They haven't ruled out Aliens at all.
>>
>>7649502
Ironically, landing a man on the Moon pretty much killed the Space Program. People got over their initial excitement and realised that it really wasn't a meaningful accomplishment for their day-to-day lives.

Although there may be a correlation with that and the fact that the 60s and 70s was when anti-science people started spouting "we should fix the problems on Earth" nonsense.
