You may be unhappy in the long run, if your life's purpose boils down to credential whoring and job security. It would be like being a premed except you don't have light to forward to at the end of the tunnel.

Then again, maybe good fortune will fall upon you like in the story of the Taoist farmer. Stick with Biochemistry and it may lead to new passions and opportunities while a Zoology dream job will lead to a worse outcome. Or just do Zoology once you finish what you started and use biochemistry as a plan B.

Everyone I know who lived by that rigid motto has developed chronic depression. Even the religious ones are spiritually dead inside. Strictly playing the rules of Western society will weaken you in the long run.

Will Zoology still count as STEM? I mean its mainly just molecular genetics

They are both as unemployable as each other. Last lodger I had had a biochem degree and the first job she got upon arriving in my country was hotel cleaner. My biology teacher had a zoology degree, my engilsh teacher had a biochemistry degree. Do zoology if that's what you like because only biochemists think biochemistry is actually prestigious.

Fucking this. Everyone said that to me when I decided to drop out of university because I was miserable. Guess what, now I'm happy with no regrets and I know this guy with a degree from LSE who constantly whines about his slavedriver Canary Wharf marketing job. Everyone else just hears "LSE" and"Canary Wharf" (our equivalent of Ivy league and Wall Street) but he personally hates it.
