I have no idea I'm afraid, I don't know many people from life sciences - I think the best thing to do if you want opinions would be to look through threads on the student room, you're bound to find someone who does something like that (if you can wade through the cancer and memesters). In general though the uni's a good place to be, well located, lots of societies, etc, the main downside is that the support you get can vary massively between departments

My department is in the top 150 of our subject. We didn't have cleaning staff for 8 months. We had literal shit in the main hallways. HUMAN SHIT.
We made a snowman in one of the hallways last december. It stayed there for 3 days, without really melting because we had no heating. We close down for about 3 weeks every year because of occupations.

There's the Howe Russel building which is a really neat geology building. It's got a really nice, quiet atrium you can study in.

Yes, I finished with an MS in physics and became basically a programmer. If I had went for compsci though I'd be making 1.5x my salary though, I started at 80k while my dev friend started at 120k and we came from the same university.

I did Computer Science.
Not a bad program either, some good profs, and it was real Comp Sci, like advanced math and algorithm theory beyond just software engineering.
It's really a good stem school, just has no culture or women.

Half of their school identity is "hurr we're so smart, not like those dumb CU Boulder stoners".

Also free two half pints of any Coors brew you want before 5pm within walking distance of the school everyday.

do you go to a California community college? this is a big plus - order of priority for transfers is California CC > other UCs > out of state CC > out of state unis

you should finish as many requirements for lower div as possible - use assist.org and search Berkeley degree worksheets in google
i don't know how community college works but if the application is the same as the freshman one, i highly recommend writing about specific experiences in your essays over general life things - write about some highly technical thing you have accomplished, not just your general contribution on a club or something
