TIL that the word "Nike" is a fusion of the term "Nigger" and "Kike". In an interview with TIME magazine in 2004, founders Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman revealed their former contempt for America's top two oppressed racial groups. Knight being a former olympian, explained how he grew in hatred after continuously losing to Black men on the track, and being taunted by their Jewish coaches afterwards. Disheartened by the repetitive trauma, Knight and his coach Bowerman left athletics for something more business oriented. Knight had the idea for a shoe company.

Fun fact: The famous swoosh logo on all their shoes mutually symbolizes the brevity of a criminal encounter with an African American and the protruded structure of a Jewish mans nose.
