Do you guys think that the reason Christ was celibate is because he represents an alternative to procreation that is available only to those at the top of a prestige hierarchy?

Peterson's speculation was that Christ, or the Messianic figure regardless of which religion, was meant to be a transcendent avatar of how people should act. He was the way of being personified that allowed people to succeed across all prestige hierarchies. Of course, because a darwinian frame of the world is being used, we have to assume the reason an individual would want to achieve across hierarchies is to mate. Organisms mate in order to create a lineage, and they want to preserve that lineage for as long as possible hence they raise offspring in a way that will allow them to mate too, ensuring grandkids etc.

But we also know that IQ is correlated with long term life success, and IQ is also inversely correlated with number of children. Christ's stories in the Bible were of course written in a time where text meant people could leave legacies and be preserved memetically rather than biologically. A historical figure is known by everyone hundreds sometimes thousands of years after their death, artists leave their work and their impact on the medium behind, and they're known by an inconceivably larger amount of people than their immediate descendents and friends.

Perhaps Christ is celibate because- while the ordinary man begins a family and starts a lineage - the handful of truly amazing people in the world leave behind a non-biological legacy that is not merely an adequate substitute for children but is actually superior to it.

Perhaps Christ's celibacy represents a paradigm shift in human beings. Instead of climbing up a prestige hierarchy to mate, people climb the hierarchy for it's own sake in order to be remembered for their achievement. it is best to be at the top to be at the top. Sexual options serve only as a metric to self evaluate your own standing.

Which actually makes some amount of sense, as one of the reasons women abandon careers is to start a family and high power career women often have their career as the only significant aspect of their life. The problem of course, is why would the Messiah figure personify a way of being that not everyone can occupy? If everyone lived as Christ did you'd have a few successes and many losers. A majority of people have to start families, they simply won't succeed if they forego it.

The idea that you /deserve/ to be happy is something he's never really touched on. According to him suffering is an inevitable part of life, but he hasn't said anything about people having a good given right to have a reprieve from that suffering.
