I've had quite a few bettas over the years and while they are cute and require much less maintenance than a full aquarium setup they do not live long in my experience, even if you take great care to keep their water clean and treated with the special chemical drops you get from the pet store and feed them just enough of the right food but I guess that's true of most fish, they are the most disposable and short lived of pets and I kind of like them for that reason, they are nice to look at but you don't get attached to them the way you do a cat or dog, and when they die it's just time to get a new fish
