to answer your question OP back in the day you had nothing to do and no internet to post and waste time on so some people just thought a lot and turned all those weird thoughts into actual ideas

like imagine you sit in the shower and think about things and you come up with ideas on how they work that's like back then except then hey shared those ideas instead of forgetting them as soon as they went back to their computer or tv or whatever
