Straight swords are gay in all the souls games except for dark souls 3. There are only two other straight swords I can think of that are good. In DS1 that would be the silver knight straight sword, and in Demon's Souls it's the penetrator sword.

First character using a hybrid build dex/hex build with winged spear+ Made it to The Rotten and now stuck for the moment

Second Character is PowerStance Wielding the Pursuers Ultra great sword And now stuck on Royal Rat rite now

Dark souls 2 is to the series what fallout 3 was to the fallout series. A really good game on it's own but not really as good as the others in the series and a lot of people exaggerate way too much on how bad it is. At least you can argue that it's the most balanced of the souls game when it comes to pvp builds.

Power stance caestus build with stone ring. Pick up bone fist when you get to that point as well for funzies.

Get required str and dex to power stance it, get adaptability up to get around 111 agility so your rolls actually get ok iframes, then pump health/Stam to soft caps.

After they're at soft caps, pump up str to soft cap followed by dex with any remaining levels. Unless you aren't level capping, then just go nuts.

I'm not even joking around, fist weapons with stone ring in ds2 is just the most satisfying thing, in pve and pvp as well. Give it a try and you'll love it.

Essentially, the way this works is the stone ring with the fast swings, and near infinite stamina due to low cost makes you stun lock most enemies to death. Damage output is actually surprisingly good as well. The fast recovery from attacks with decent adaptability also allows easy dodging while being on full offensive.

Not to mention allowing better armor due to ultra low weight. Later on equip caestus and bone fist on right hand with caestus on left to have a ranged attack to spam if desired, and of course remember the bone fist 2h moveset is amazing at blasting shit into the air along with amazing stagger. Keep a lot of repair dust on you though if you want to spam hadoukens with bone fist.

It makes me sad that ds2 was the only game where fist weapons remained viable.
