Cute. A nice little journalistic trick. But in its own way also quite juvenile and quite idiotic.

In fact, one can easily imagine those serious-looking, grave-faced MSNBC journalists planning this silly ambush. "Let's ask him what he would do about a leppo, and when he responds by saying that he doesn't know what a leppo is, we'll make him look really dumb when we point out that we're actually referring to Aleppo."

Johnson handled the matter with courtesy and aplomb: "Okay, I got it" and then he proceeded to explain to those serious-looking, grave-faced MSNBC journalists how the deadly and destructive mess in Syria was a direct consequence of U.S. interventionism, including the concept of regime change, which has been a core element of U.S. foreign policy since the inception of the national-security establishment in the 1940s.

But you see, that's not what mainstream journalists want to hear. Mired in the paradigm of interventionism, what they want to hear is how candidates are going to make interventionism work. The last thing they want to hear is someone telling them that interventionism itself is the problem and that the solution is for the U.S. government, especially the Pentagon and the CIA, to stop intervening in the affairs of other countries.

Like mainstream political candidates, many mainstream journalists are unable to think and analyze at that level. They're easily able to deal with candidates who are mired within the socialist/interventionist paradigm and who are debating and discussing ways to make socialism and interventionism work. But when a libertarian comes along and doesn't play that game, instead challenging the entire paradigm itself, many mainstream journalists find themselves flummoxed and perplexed.

That's when they decide resort to cute, gotcha type word games like, "What are you going to do about a leppo if you're elected president?"

Here's the problem, OP. The Japanese ethos was warped forever by the atomic bomb attacks during WWII. Millions of Japanese men, women, and children were forced to come to terms with the idea of an overwhelmingly powerful entity outside of their control that could wipe them out of existence without warning using unspeakable weapons. They did this, for the most part, by exploring the idea in fiction. Godzilla is one example. Anime is another. If the United States of America were to deploy nuclear weaponry against Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and France, chances are the same thing would happen again: More Godzillas, and more anime. Do you think the world can really handle six animes? In the 1980's, United States President Ronald Reagan developed an idea known as "Mutually-Assured Destruction" (MAD). This philosophy stated that war with Russia would not happen, because there was no way to wage it without both countries being destroyed. I see this same situation today. We cannot nuke more countries for fear of mutually assured destruction when they create more anime. Thank you for your time.

Most people didn't knew about him as the mainstream media just didn't say anything about the third party candidates. Most of the press was just extremely anti trump, but given that our two major parties are (from a political point of view) a "sanders party" and a "Clinton party" (Merkel) and the lesser parties also mostly fit in that direction, it's kinda understandable. I'm not going to explain the whole German political situation, but Europe is by default a bit more to the left, eventhough the whole European Union and refugee crisis brought up parties that are further to the right and are more Trump supporting.
