It impedes movement a bit, but I like that. It's analogous to a heavy blanket to help with anxiety.

It won't irritate your skin if you get the right sized diaper and put it only correctly. People like to put them on way too tight.

I buy them on amazon, but I've bought from the store before. I never got weird looks.

Yes diapers chafe if you don't use powder and oil or lotion, which is why I only wear diapers if I'm just sitting around the house
There are some stores that sell AB diapers (Adult baby diapers) in Atlanta, Vegas, Chicago and a few other places to my knowledge, but you generally buy them online. otherwise you're just buying low-quality depends that are uncomfortable, don't hold much and just plain aren't cute
I got a weird look when I was 12 and bought diapers from a pharmacy once. I could tell the clerk knew I was nervous because the diapers were for me

And yes I piss in them, that's half the fun. I don't shit in them though, that's too messy to clean up
