Why are people like this

People can be emotionally stunted, especially when adults find it "too hard" to explain manners and how to read a room. I think a lot of normies grow up without the ability to empathize correctly, because their high self esteem makes them incapable of putting themselves in someone else's shoes.
They see themselves as the protagonist. I don't think they had any ill will towards you, but I would look into finding some less immature friends.

immature as he is, he's never failed me. i just didn't know he can be so inconsiderate

Because your suffering is not special in any way to anyone except to you.

More specifically normalfags

when my best (only )friend said same thing i laughed for some reason and told him im sorry. we continued conversation like nothing happened sooo just dont get to emotional
What the hell were you expecting? I mean, I would agree that his response was really fucking stupid, but do you want to get showered with pity or something? If I had a family member who died, I'd confide it to my friend just to let it off my chest, and then immediately change the subject to keep it from getting awkward and forcing him into a position where he feels he has to feign caring to keep from upsetting me. What is the other party even supposed to say besides, "That sucks"?

Ignore the soulless NPC normies who have replied. Friends are supposed to take care of each other. Obviously he won't sob over your relatives death, but seeing you sad should bother him. Some people are ''positive vibez only bro'' 24/7
