I do. I think the current power structure is too far gone to be saved, but I'm more optimistic about the aftermath than most. I think we'll balkanize, then form new communities and eventually new nations.
In the time it takes for this to happen, I believe people will rediscover the motivation of self-fulfilling connections to each other, and their shared heritage. This situation, combined with modern technology and information (which I don't think will be lost to the same extent that it was in similar past events) will result in rapid growth and cooperation among these new communities, and eventually a sort of rebirth of humanity as we return to the path of true progress that we were steered away from.

Perhaps, but if there aren't enough functional western countries left to prop up the global economy, I don't think that kind of situation can possibly last very long. Brazil and South Africa would look very different today if foreign aid didn't allow them to persist and develop in the unsustainable state they found themselves in.
