Pick a subject that interests you and study it. Most "smart" people aren't actually smart, they're just masters in their field of interest. If you want to seem like a genius just master multiple subjects, the more relevant to everyday conversation the better.

take a low dose adderall or amphetamine dose (25 to 30 mg) and during that time focus yourself on doing one thing. read something by nabokov, study a little bit of linear algebra or about the latest math proof. try picking up an academic journal article in bio or some shit. If it doesn't make sense to you, its not supposed to. go to google or wikipedia and read shit there to clarify every little thing that doesn't make sense to you.

the whole "fake it til you make it" isn't some psychological 'mental projection' shit, its about putting yourself in an unfamiliar and uncomfortable situation until it becomes comfortable to operate in. by putting yourself around dense and incomprehensible material and learning how to go through it and REALLY understand it, you'll get smart. Besides, a lot of shit that is in some academic journals is really fucking basic by academic standards. /just fucking look at computational biology or modern psychology trade, you could train high schoolers to run their experiments and go through their data.

If it weren't for the fucking file size, I would've dropped off /sci/'s reading catalog to understanding mathematics better to the point where you could actually get a job in fields revolving around physics and mathematics.
If you want to make yourself smarter, surround yourself by those smarter than yourself. I'm not saying to go out and socialise with real people, but instead of browsing /r9k/, pick up a Quora account and find some topics you'd like to expand your knowledge on, or browse /sci/ and /lit/ and try to get a better understanding of all of the terms thrown around there until you can actually browse the board and feel comfortable knowing you know what they're talking about.

there was some long term study about that and they found that it helped with short term memory and iq while not having significant health effects. if it was 50 or more i was saying id tend to agree. but you can do the rest with out the adderall and do similarly well, adderall is just incredibly good at improving focus and task saliency. it greases the wheels so to speak

Reading. It doesn't even matter what, as long as you do ALL of it. No skimming things, every goddamn word. Subvocalizing is good, aloud is better. And pay full attention, don't just go through the motions of reading it, make sure you understand what's being said. When you come to a word you aren't certain you understand, or you're not certain how to pronounce, look it up to make sure. Crossword puzzles and logic games are weightlifting for the brain.

It's not all that hard to set aside half an hour a day, pick a random wikipedia article, and read the entire thing.

You can work on the forgetting part, at least, by making a deliberate effort to remember things. Repetition helps. I suspect your problem is not of intelligence so much as focus. Meaning you allow yourself to become distracted, and while you're on the second thing the stuff with the first falls out of your head, and then the second to the third, and so on. Literally just try harder, really try super hard, and you should improve. Conscious rather than casual attention.
