anyone have a career of some kind?

1st year security technician
The tradie meme is alot better than the uni meme, even robots can do it honestly
>>
I'm an engineer. I don't like it.
>>
Should I become an electrician or an electrical engineer? Neither? I hear both get shit on
>>
>>39417856
in my experience working alongside them, electricians are lazy cunts that cut corners but they seem to earn a lot, you have to go through alot more effort than other trades cause you work with live cables.

I fell for the uni meme and wish I had done the trade meme.

I have a degree in fucking BIOLOGY.

I have worked multiple jobs in multiple cities doing the same fucking BORING, EASY, and REPETITIVE lab tasks and I'm about to LOSE IT.

Seriously considering switching careers. Lab work earns me between $40-$45k/year. Fucking SUCKS.

love her! I remember when I talked to her on Omegle for quite a while. what a sweetheart.
>>
>>39418100
fuck thats shit, im looking at +100k a year for my security technician gig post apprentiship, my boss started as a year 10 dropout and lives in a mansion with like multiple top of the range cars its insane, uni is just a horrible scam.
>>
Electrician here. Where I live/work being a lazy cunt is frowned upon and will get you shit on. You don have to be social though as you will likely work with all old fuckers.

OP here, it does seem like you guys always yell at each other, do you guys cut corners often and shit?
>>
>>39418100
>doing the same fucking BORING, EASY, and REPETITIVE lab tasks
Sounds comfy

>between $40-$45k/year.
Oh, nevermind.
>>
>>39418811
A lot of old dudes have no patience for their apprentices and forget what it was like to be a dumb cunt but our guys are all good. We cant cut any corners or be shoddy because we need our name to get other contracts (commercial electrical)
BUT I work alongside other companies and see gross shit all the time.
>>
Software Engineer here. It's fun when you get over knowing most of the shit you write won't be used in a year.
>>
>>39418213
Does that mean security guard? I have some qualifications for that already but my small town doesn't offer jobs
>>
I am a disinterested freshman who's going to fuck up his Calculus class thereby stripping myself of any possibility of a degree that isn't a meme. Fun Stuff

damn man, what year you in so far as an apprentice, and I feel for you, im only like 2 months in yet my boss/ coworker but they have a lot of patience/respect and understanding that I don't know shit and offer help whenever I ask, they are even offering to give me a company car already, I got super lucky hopefully. but same with us on cutting corners, we clean up our shit and neaten it out because we are a very small business and cant afford to lost customers.
>>39418923
nah a security technician specialises in installing cameras, sensors, alarms, fire alarms and so on, we are a really small company meaning we are alot more flexible than most, so I am doing alot more shit on the side like installing data/phone points, flatscreen TV's, running PVC piping for NBN/underground sirens and also we are service repairmen on call, real interesting stuff actually.
>>39418948
its real depressing shit, young kids who have degrees in really impressive fields end up working retail for longer than they hoped because they just never get anything rewarding out of their schooling. all my friends who are doing uni are just so distraught about their future prospects
>>
I fell for the trade school meme.

Spending all day around folks made my anxiety skyrocket.
>>
Has anyone ever been in the military as an officer? I'm seriously considering it because I can't bear the domestic work afforded to me by my degrees. I have an interview coming up and want some advice on whether I should commit fully or no.
>>
i'm a mommy. i have a lifelong career!
>>
I'm in community college just hoping to get an AS in computer network administration and get a job
>>
>>39419011
2nd year my man. For them to have that much faith in your workmanship after 2 months is pretty telling of the job you do, be proud man hope they keep you.

>>39419074
I don't know what country you're in but an officer can be a rewarding career, best of luck anon
>>
I'm a stay-at-home son
>>
>>39419011
that's cool, sounds kind of like being an electrician but with more cameras and tech shit? what's the mix of commercial/industrial/residential?

80% of enjoying your work is having good coworkers, sounds like you found a good one!

>>39418100
biology is a good degree if you really enjoy micropipetting for slightly more than minimum wage!
>>
second year doctor
going alright but the hours suck
will be specialising soon though so I'll get interns to boss about and do all the dirty work
>>
>>39417808
5th year in the home security sector, I even have an expense card at this point. It's pretty dank

never really known anyone in an apprentiship this early, how did you go first 3 months? im gonna start doing the labour on my own next month and im a bit nervous about doing it.
>>39419155
When its not building sites we do mostly residential or commercial, lot of incredibly rich houses and we are best friends of the local jewish community (because they are paranoid as shit) and yeah, its very similar to what technicians do, only real difference is we work on different devices and use different cables, the most improtant difference is that our shit isnt live so less risk, but its not a job for a robot I will say that much, you gotta be tough/smart/social and switched on
>>
>>39419224
I still have a journeyman pretty close by but I dont know, good? my instructions are always pretty clearly defined so when I'm alone I know what needs doing. Dont worry too much man you're not going to be thrown to the wolves.

lucky, as decent as my coworker is, he is a bit of an idiot, he will more or less mumble instructions, forget alot stuff we need for a worksite making us lose like hours of work, the sad thing is im pretty much just 2 months in but im not the one making screw ups, my coworker with a decade of experience is making huge fuck ups so I really am not that concerned honestly
>>
>>39417856
if you can actually study then be an electrical engineer (its very difficult fyi).
>>
>>39418114
yea shes great, I remember taking her cherry and marrying her. good times.
>>
>>39419913
Awww you guys got married? That's so romantic, I was so happy when she told me her story about meeting you after being a pure virgin her whole life. You guys are goals af!

im 26 and in uk, have no kind of hope for even the lowest of work; how do i get a trade job?
>>
>>39417808
Commercial HVAC, it's bretty gud. Pays well, hardly gets boring, and it keeps me in shape. Not too physically demanding either, at least compared to other things.
>>39418100
You goddamn retard, please tell me you got something more than a bachelors.

I'm a technical editor for real actual (shitty) Hollywood movies. I'm union, I make >$100k/year, and it's all the cool technical stuff I like, like programming and file compression, without the shitty creative part of editing.

Plus I get to see outtakes of celebrities throwing fits, see highly-anticipated movies way before release, and I know many big-name directors and go to their crazy drug-fueled parties.

I like it.

went to community college for a year and dropped out, anyone have any success stories about getting a trade? already looked into it i can be out in 10 months if i start next month. seems like i dont have any other options lol. thinking about the IT program not really sure if i should go for it
>>
>>39420286
What trade are you looking at? Typically it's 2 years to be qualified, never heard of 10 months unless you're getting an apprenticeship, and even then that seems a bit too low.
>>
>>39418041
Who's dis? Sauce?
>>
Petroleum engineer making 100k+
>>
>>39419011
is it easy or what? were the courses math heavy?
>>
>>39420379
I mean it depends on whats easy for you, hard to answer really, im pretty /fit/ so I can do alot of the shit no problem, its pretty demanding in terms of discipline and you have to put up with the customers pretty often, oh and other tradies giving you shit since your an apprentice so if you are pretty weak stomached I can't say its for you. In terms of a trade I have to learn a hell of a lot more than most other apprentices since I do a lot more stuff and pretty much everyday is something different/new
>>
>>39420323
the program is called cisco certified network administrator so I would be getting a few entry level I.T certifications. its a full time program 6 hours a night 4 nights a week. i dont think i would mind it but i just need to move out really bad to get away from my crazy mom and relocate from the town im living in becaues its terrible. this seems to be my fastest option in 10 months, I dont need to make a whole lot of money just enough to survive on my own. about to be 21 years old.
