Celebrity news articles only focus on sensational marriage breakdowns and disasterous divorce cases rather than reporting on happy, long term marriages. Things like pornography and erotica elevate casual sex. Postmodernist university professors harp on about how marriage and long term relationships are outdated, and antithetical to freedom and individuality, and just a relic of the past.

With young adults today so immersed in this sort of culture, the only place to look to for examples of good marriages is their parents marriage. And so many people grew up in single parent households and broken homes.

So what's the result? A generation of kids who are convinced that marriage is a waste of time and money, and its better to be single and follow hedonistic pursuits, falling for memes like "travel" and "eating out every night". What is going to happen to these people when they turn 50, and its too late to have a traditional lifestyle? How will they deal with the existential pain?

It just worries me sometimes. I can see so many people on this site have fallen for this modern trendy cynicism towards traditional relationships. I hope the next generation fares better.

The benefits to having 2 working spouses make having a stay at home mom seem stupid. You get twice the income, you both get time away from each other, she isn't stuck in a house all day, and there is more stability. Having 2 working parents is amazing if you are both working solid jobs, if you are wealthy you can get a nanny to stay with the kid and help out.

I grew up with a stay at home Mom and when my parents got divorced she was fucked. Out of the workforce for nearly 20 years and no reliable income. We were upper middle class, rich by most standards, and when the divorce happened my Dad continued that lifestyle as my Mom was forced to find an entry level job in her 40s. It's sad really.

Lotta hell.
