Show up to work and give him a firm handshake and ask for your job back
Is construction a good job? Should a Skelly even bother trying it? Would you do it again or are you going to try something new?

Its really good work and you can make some good money doing it
Its hard work when you first start because you are doing all the grunt work but I would do it again with out a doubt

Maybe the only situation a "firm handshake" might actually help. If he sees you care that much about the job he may reconsider.
