The difference is, with male friends, you have stuff to do together. You don't just talk. You play games, watch movies, maybe he's into the same hobby as you are and you share and critique stuff from the hobby. With a girl, its more of a being playful and flirty, making eachother laugh, and just aimlessly talking.
