Is there really any point in arguing about this, the vast majority of both are shit and the ones which are good are good irrespective of where they are made. The thing I like about manga is that there is much more variety than in comics, but the best comic writers/artists utilise the medium much better than the japs do. Anime on the whole is fucking trash outside maybe a handful of OVAs and cartoons haven't been good for about 15 years with again a few exceptions.

It was serialised in the same magazine as Berserk was and around the time that Berserk was probably the magazine's flagship title, it's not a surprise that it influenced someone/convinced someone to rip it off. I think the setting is unique, I would have definitely read the whole thing.
