It is for me. I'm obsessed with history, especially Roman.
Girls don't like me much so I can't precisely say how it'll affect your chances with them.

Women are OK with other women who read (as long as it's Oprah's book list or some such garbage) but they consider all men who read fags.

I never mention that I read about the history of the American Civil War obsessively. I've brought girls back and they see my shelf with all the books stacked two deep and the flags rested on poles against it. The only time I've been able to talk about history in general with a girl was about the second world war, and she knew quite a bit about aviation, which was cool.
It's a mixed bag, either she pretends to ignore it, or she can engage you as deeply as her own understanding goes (you just end up knowing more rote information when you read so much, you just can't sperg about it).
Don't verbally force the issue is all. If you're like me, also remember to put your flags away.
