If you have the skills to make it in life you don't need a degree, fuck uni, if you want to be a glorified wageslave why not start sooner and climb your way to the top?
If you are a normie then no problem just cling to the networking meme and be aware that internships can save you from unemployment after graduation.

I don't think there's a problem unless you don't act like a complete sperg by doing something super embarassing

I know this isn't the place for "real" advice and I'm not a normie but I'm pretty observant - try to get out of your shell anon. I know it's hard and I can't do it myself but even if it's by going to parties and getting drunk, study groups or whatever just try to get at least a few friends. If neither of those are your thing (they're not mine either) find a club or something that you can join. Most of all don't keep yourself to yourself. The quality of people you're around will be directly proportional to the amount of effort you put in to make friends. Again, I know advice like this is hated on this place and I'm not saying "beee urself", go get a haircut or some stupid shit I don't know how to look attractive or anything. If it comes down to it, once you make some friends ask for advice or google what hairstyles and close suit your face and size or something. College friends might not last forever but they could be connections that benefit you later on in life, so you can never be too careful. Be polite to everyone, even if you're not friendly, and people won't have a problem with you.

try not to be antisocial(don't wear headphones in class, ask random questions to people around you, if someone say something to you make sure to say something to him later in class)

go to every lab or dgd. I met all my friends there and never in lectures

Interacting with others is hard. I'm basically "mastered" the art of bullshit as much as a sperg can, and can tell you to just find people that share your interests, that way it's much easier to interact with them without needing to think "oh my fucking god what should i talk about fuckfuckfuckfuck" I'm with a group of "friends" that are "gamers" and I'm not very close to all of them but I at least have some people to hang out with and the conversation is always something I can talk about. If that's not the case, make new interests people can talk with you about. Not sure what kind but take your time figuring it out. Latch on to a few people in the first days then you'll at least have a "starter" social group then branch out once you find more interesting people. I think it's a good start that you're at least asking about this which shows you want to put effort in, I think you're nice anon, I'm sure you'll make friends :)

>if someone say something to you make sure to say something to him later in class
what? that's weird. what if I don't have anything to say? "thanks for talking to me"?
>>
>>39230728
oops i wrote it wrong. If someone talks to you and the conversation ended, make sure to start another conversation and keep on going. just make some small talks.
>>
During the first weeks it is totally acceptable to say hello and introduce yourself to random people since the people you'll meet are probably as new as you. Don't miss this opportunity. For example you can introduce yourself to people you sit next to before the lectures.

It's also quite convenient since you can do initial small talk just by asking questions like what program they are in, where they are from (assuming there's a lot of international students), what classes they are taking, etc... Then you can go on and ask things like why they chose the program they did and you can get some clues about what interests them and what they are like and perhaps start some more meaningful conversation if you have an interest in common.

is this berkeley?

what? no, you think I'm some kinda yuppie
>>

Start by making small talk. If you want to make friends, don't make the mistake of giving them things.
I'm not talking about bjs fagg, but you know, pay them a coffee and shit.
No, instead, get them to give you something. It's called commitment, great way to make friends.
It's a little manipulative, but everyone is, you can just choose to do it consciously

why would I try to get friends if I'm introvert and prefer being alone?

Then why the fuck did you make this thread you retard?

Make sure you are in a non-meme degree and begin preparing for employment from the very beginning. If you want to go academia, start going to your professor's office hours and asking questions. Not dumb shit. Ask them things like "where is this used in application?" "does this have something to do with <related theorem/concept>?" etc. Show them you are interested. If you want to go into industry, be on the lookout for internships, go to employment info sessions etc. Find out what kinds of skills are in demand (eg. statistics software like R, programming in SQL, whatever) and train those early.

Your fellow students can be invaluable sources of help later on. Chads inherit quality notes from nerds then pass them down to young Chads who disseminate them among their friends, who pass them along to their friends. Early on it won't matter much, but when you finally get a lecturer in a difficult subject who is terrible at teaching, you will be very grateful to have inherited notes taken when their much more competent predecessor was still around. Or when somebody can give you a hint for that assignment question that's had you stumped for days. Perhaps the most valuable service they can offer you is telling you what their upperclassmen friends know of certain teachers and classes. Sometimes you will be torn between choosing one of several units, pick one based on how it sounds, only to discover that because of a certain lecturer or curriculum it is a shitty unit. But it's already too late to switch out of it.

You don't have to be friends, but I would really recommend establishing acquaintanceships.

Make sure to check out your campus libraries (there's likely to be quite a few - check your uni's website/maps or ask other students). You can learn many wonderfully specific topics out of their books that aren't taught at the university. Things you have never heard of before. There should also be a recreational library filled with less scholarly works for your down-time. Mine even has a TV with various consoles hooked up. Your university library likely has digital subscriptions to a variety of software which is open to you. Mathematica, MATLAB, Microsoft Office, Photoshop etc. Make sure you check those out. If you're in physics or maths, I strongly recommend picking up Mathematica or MATLAB and learning how to use that. Very useful for checking your working (particularly for differential equations).

There should be a variety of clubs open to you. You've already said you prefer to be on your own, but you may be interested in them for personal development rather than socialising. Major or faculty-specific clubs can also be a source of the same things I mentioned in my last post (notes, thoughts on teachers/units, etc.). Regardless of your feelings, it's free to look so don't let your pride as a lone wolf leave you ignorant of your options.

Don't buy your textbooks if you can avoid it. They are overpriced, and odds are you will find a superior text for yourself in the library than what is on the booklist. If you must buy a book, make sure to shop around online first. Your campus bookstore will likely rip you off. Sometimes they also make you buy a book "for the code" (to a shitty website they use for the homework). In this case, try to complain with your fellow students to get this changed. If that fails, look for used books with unused codes or buy the code directly from the book's site (the textbook itself is likely a waste of money, so you might as well soften the financial blow).
