It appears as those he is walking on water, on closer inspection you see he is above the water maybe jumping into a pool, finally you realize he is far above the ocean - 250 miles up, above our planet he is floating, falling, free.

The moon is blue and cloudy?

>>38941441
>desert on earth

That "theory" has been debunked and thoroughly blown the fuck out by videos from the lunar surface showing the astronauts and the lunar rover kicking up dust that doesn't behave like any dust on Earth in gravity and atmosphere does.

You are a special kind of stupid.

Show me an example of special effects that make dust trails kicked up by wheels and people walking/jumping that behaves the way the lunar regolith behaves in the videos I posted.

If you can't provide any proof you must admit there is a flaw in your argument here, a very glaring flaw for you will not find anywhere on Earth, nor be able to replicate the effect anywhere on Earth because the airless, near zero-gravity environment of the moon does not exist on the Earth.

>God makes man to rule over lifestock
Not really sure how you're getting confused here. It doesn't actually what animals were created at the beginning of time. It also doesn't preclude God from guiding evolution, knowing the outcome, and knowing it would be in his image.

If God is all powerful and all knowing then he would know what is to exist and in what image it will take.

Thats cool, picturing a tree on such a scale is awe inspiring but probably not very realistic sadly

Well here we come to a crucial tenet of religious apology; even if a text appears to contradict science, you can always just mold the interpretation to sound plausible along with science.

We can look at a verse like
>God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

and ask ourselves one of two questions; does this text suggest evolution, or is this text compatible with evolution?

The answer to the first question is a pretty obvious no; if what they meant when writing that was that God slowly created all the wild animals over the course of billions of years by the slow process of evolution, why did they write down that God "made" the wild animals in a series of passages where God is just making things one after the other? And why also is creating humans a separate passage when humans are also animals descended from other animals? It suggests a different reality than the one we know we live in, a reality where God just makes things in a moment, and this indeed is how people read it until the evidence for evolution started piling up. Because that's the natural way to read it.

But the trick is that the answer to the second question is always yes, because you can always just add caveats and reinterpret the text. There is no text you cannot defend this way, and it all seems to make perfect sense until you're honest about where the impulse to change your interpretation came from. It's not that you understand the text better now, it's that science revealed the text to be wrong as written, and you had to find a way to make it right again. If not for science, nobody would ever have reinterpreted that text that way.
>>
>>38944592
>you can always just mold the interpretation to sound plausible along with science.
Why is this not allowed? You act like your understanding of the text isn't allowed to evolve with new information. Such an arbitrary rule that you and yours institute to discredit religion.

You then go on to argue semantics in a translation. This is beyond retarded.

>There is no text you cannot defend this way
>X is completely impossible
>Find out later that X isn't impossible
How are you going to defend this? More blanket statements to defend your dumb position

Problem being that it's not a good moral guide either. It never condemns slavery, for instance. Has nothing to say against tyrants, but has plenty to say about what materials to make your clothes out of, advice that is dismissed out of hand by 99% of the faithful. And it has no advice for all the travails of modern living. Should police be able to search your phone without a warrant? The Bible has no clue, but it does know what kind of hooved animals you're allowed to eat.

As a moral guide or moral parable it's painfully out of date, in many places inaccurate or insane, and far from the only book you should read on the subject. And as a factual account of events it's laughable. It's not even a particularly good book for espousing what few good morals it has because it's so self-contradictory; you can get Mother Theresa or the Inquisition out of this book depending on how you interpret it. What use, then, does this book have, other than making sure that priests have jobs and that parents have comforting lies to tell their children about heaven during funerals?

It is far better to have an conversation about modern morality in the context of modern philosophy, science and knowledge, rather than referring back to a book written in large part by iron age peasants who knew less about how the world actually works than most 4th graders do today.

>>38944766
>know it all atheists knows it all

>>
>>38944649

The point is that you're reading the text in a way that it quite clearly wasn't written. You can attempt to claim that translation makes it impossible to tell how it was written, but this same claim, if true, means it's impossible to draw any meaning from this text whatsoever, because how could you know that your interpretation of it is the correct one if the text is untranslatable and/or the meaning is always in flux? How then to be a Christian if your primary source is ineffable?

It's an obvious rhetorical tactic to protect the text from critique by obfuscation, not an actual defense of it. Nothing about a text that reads like an obviously wrong account of how humans and animals came to be and has to be reinterpreted in just the right way to be even remotely close suggests that the text in question was inspired by the creator of the universe. What it suggests is that the text is wrong.

The text is not evolving with new information, the text is the same, and the claims it makes are the same as they've been for thousands of years, all that's different is that now there's evidence that the text is wrong about what happened in the past.
>>
>>38944936
>You can attempt to claim that translation makes it impossible to tell how it was written
I never said this. I argued against semantics due to translation, not general meaning. I can't tell if you're being intellectually dishonest or you're just retarded.

>It's an obvious rhetorical tactic to protect the text from critique by obfuscation, not an actual defense of it
>THE BIBLE IS WRONG. IT ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH EVOLUTION
>Why?
>SEE HERE? IT DOESN'T SPECIFICALLY SPELL OUT EVOLUTION
That doesn't mean it's incompatible with evolution. If I tell you I'm going to the watch a movie but I don't mention that I'll be watching it with your girlfriend because we're fucking it doesn't automatically mean I'm not fucking her. It's left open. Stop being dumb.

>all that's different is that now there's evidence that the text is wrong
The text would be required to say that we did not evolve. It doesn't say that. You're doing the same thing you're accusing me of doing: reinterpreting the text based on new information. You haven't pointed to anything the text is wrong about, just to something that the text doesn't completely elucidate. And as a text written thousands of years ago you shouldn't expect it to cover minutiae like police searching your cell phone you mong
>>
>>38945074
>I argued against semantics due to translation

By which you mean that the text actually means something that it doesn't seem to mean on a first read, right? That the phrase "made," as in creating something willfully, in this case means allowing animals to develop out of other forms of life, shaped by random mutations and environmental influences, over the course of untold millennia. If that's true, anything can mean anything. Unless you have something specific (and really good) to say about the translation of this passage that makes the original verb used wildly different from the English word that the official translations of Bible scholars use, this whole line of argument is not worth pursuing to me.

But we come back here to my initial post; you can always reinterpret your text to be compatible with evolution, but you cannot make it suggest evolution. Nobody would ever learn about evolution, which is how animals and humans came to be, by reading this passage. They wouldn't even be close to how it actually happened. In any other world of text, this would mean that the text is wrong because it is not an accurate representation of what it claims to represent, and it's only when we talk about the Bible that it suddenly means that the reader is wrong.

Also,
>And as a text written thousands of years ago you shouldn't expect it to cover minutiae like police searching your cell phone you mong
Why in the world not? It is claimed that these texts were written with the help of an omniscient deity; if he can supposedly see the forms animals would eventually take,
>>38944100
then why exactly did he not know cell phones would eventually exist and police would want to search them, violating the privacy of their owners? There's not even a general ruling on privacy in the Bible, and it's because its writers were mere mortals that had no idea these things would exist, not because there's a God who supposedly wrote a book about morality that doesn't cover all morality.
>>
>>38945281
It means made buddy. Stop trying to ascribe meaning to it beyond that. I'm not even going to bother reading the rest of this shit. You seem to assume the Bible is inaccurate and that it's incompatible with science. You have no proof of this except your feelings and of course YOUR interpretation which is the only approved interpretation according to you.

What a joke.

>then why exactly did he not know cell phones would eventually exist
Stop being a fuckhead. Why put something in a book for people that wouldn't get anything from it for another 2000 years? You're beyond stupid dude. Go tip your fedora on leddit

I feel that a healthy amount of skepticism is necessary in the world we live in. I understand that the way sciences are taught at schools may lead one into believing that he's being indoctrinated, and has to accept those axiomatic statements like absolute truth, just the way religious people do with their scriptures.
But here comes the amazing thing about sciences, and it's the founding principle behind scientific knowledge: you can test it. You can experiment it. You can put it to prove, and if it's true, it will always show it, because that's the principle of science: describing the phenomenons of the world with general laws, thus predicting the outcome of a know event with great deal of certainty.
You can repeat the experiments that led great men of the past to conclude that the earth was round right now, from your room window. You can reproduce these experiments with very simple astronomical tools that you can craft with daily objects. You can see for yourself. See and then believe, the opposite of faith.
Of course as science gets more complex, your power of testing diminishes. You will hardly be able to reproduce Rutherford's experiment with radioactive alfa particles and a thin plate of gold. And you will probably never get to experience yourself the tests of the large hardron collider. So you can continue to doubt modern atomistica. But the flat earth thing... Just see it for yourself and drop the tinfoil hat.
>>
>>38939310
How are they even able to do all that? If what we're told about space is real, then you have billions of objects that can hit you around earth. Satellites should be falling back down all the goddamn time because they got hit by micrometeorites and debris from other satellites.

Astronauts should fucking die all the time because they get hit by a tiny bit of rock moving at 3000 km/h
>>
>>38945813
Space is really big, even the orbital plane of the ISS doesnt encounter much debris but there have been impacts, look up impacts to the ISS, paint chips, and shit striking its happened but its not as destructive as you think.

I am 100% sure you're trolling. But for anyone else interested, let me explain some things about the Van Allen belts.

The Van Allen belts are far above low-earth orbit. They're totally irrelevant to most space-flight.

They're not like brick walls in space that kill you the instant you touch them. They're usually pretty weak; you'd experience about as much radiation as you would from a few hundred X-rays. Definitely not fatal. Further, they move and change strength depending on the solar wind. During a solar storm, they ARE dangerous, you might actually die from it. But at their weakest they're barely there. All missions that head for other planetoids wait for the belts to weaken so as to expose their craft to as little radiation as possible. This was especially true of the Apollo missions. They received about as much radiation as 10 X-rays. I've had more than that at my dentist's office. If your house has a basement, you probably have had more than that from the radon.
>>
>>38946357
I dont know why some are so insintent on their belief that we never ventured out into Earth orbit and lunar orbit and lunar landing,

They bring up the Van Allen belt of course claiming it as the "impenetrable brick wall in space" as you call it, yet they fail to or ignore further reading that shows that astronauts go through it in a planned approach on its lowest intensity periods.

The stupidity of it all, to bring up the Van Allen belt as proof for their outrageous claims while ignoring the other side of it that its not as deadly as they are claiming and thats been confirmed by James Van Allen himself.
