After my mom consulted with her sister who was college educated and the smarter one, they find a legal loophole. At the time, they had a guest worker program, or some type of H1 thing, one of those programs, and they basically went on weekend trips to several employers in the States, for several weeks. They offered them each a bribe essentially to sign off the visa letter, saying they were going to sponsor them. They ended up paying, in those days, $500 each to some farmer guy with an agriculture company, and who wrote some letter saying, that they (my mom and aunt) were going to work long term as field hands, picking up strawberries or whatever.

Of course. They never showed up for those jobs. They got regular jobs, settled down, and laid low. They got their green cards in due time, with employment history, and they jumped to the front of the line because, remember they were 'sponsored' to come here.

And so the rest is history.

So if you really want to come to the US,. then there are scams and loopholes to explore. Leave your dignity and ethical qualms at the door, and research what's your best move.

I hit up ratemyprofessor and shopped around for a college with an easier math course. I finally found a dumbed down algebra course that they had just launched, aimed at people for me. Only problem? It was in another county, 30 mins from where my aunt lives. What did I do? I begged for a room, had to really pitch it as my only hope, for finishing college at a proper school, not a diploma mill. I convinced her.

I hauled ass to an area I didn't know, I studied my pants off for 8 weeks, and talked to the instructor, despite my studying, I was still faling with a 'D', I managed to her curve me and the class, especially after explaining the ordeal of me being there. Got my 'C', sent in my transcript, with otherwise great grades, and got accepted to my uni. I start in 2 weeks. And I never expected to ever finish up my college education, after being a college drop-out for a long while.

So the point of this blog post. If you want something done, then you find a way. Had I stayed home, not brainstormed shit, and not cozied up to my aunt, and the instructor too, then I would still be where I was a year ago --- a Neet.

Undoubtedly the working class should be promoted in their attempts at attaining class promotion through a combination of discipline, education and hard-work - though I sincerely doubt that any would want to go past that, to venture into mid-upper/ upper class warrants a degree of materialism that frankly is of little desire to those that weren't born into it, given that the mid-working/ middle classes have the perks of the former without the same degree of stress and loss of personal freedoms then surely such should be optimal for the average citizen (also keep in mind that the middle class currently outnumbers the working class as a proportion). And I know this will come off as projecting though I heavily doubt that many people in the country want to become actors, politicians, presenters etc. as much as they want secure careers. Once you get over the fact that you'll never be one of the very few who were either born rich as you say or are naturally gifted to enter those fields you find contentment in life, there's no pressure in exerting yourself to be remembered when your existence will be nullified in less than a century. Though if we all do our part to help out then our quality of life can only improve on the whole.

OP, I will say that grass is always greener on the other side. I follow Louis Thoreux, the documentarian for the BBC, and he did a move to LA for a few years (He's an American citizen too), and then promptly moved back a couple of years later, citing home sickness and culture shock, amongst other reasons.

Although, we technically share a common linage, and the same language (some will dispute that lel), we've vastly grown apart in the last 300-400 years. You may think that you 'understand' American culture, through our cultural hegemony, i.e., Hollywood, but Hollywood isn't representative of America.

You will be culture shocked when you get. I've heard reversed experiences of Americans going to Britain and Ireland, and literally not being able to communicate with some heavily accented people, not understanding the social customs/mores of your country, and not getting your humor, amongst several other things.

Americans are, paradoxically, both very individualistic, but also, very extroverted. There are no classes here. There are no lords; No respect from where you are from, or how you talk (although, supposedly some girls find some English accents sexy). Here, you're expected to have opinion on things, but know when to, and when not to share them. Politics, religion, and money are extremely sensitive topics, that you don't discuss outside of close family or friends -- unless you're prepared to risk a confrontation with someone. America IS extremely polarized right now. But despite our differences, you're still expected to walk up to strangers, strike up conversations, and ask how their day is going (despite not caring), because we're Americans -- because we're free and we can. Religion here is very important to people. And so is a solid work ethic. We're up there with Germans and Koreans in terms of productivity. Because of puritian heritage, your humor and coarseness can offend many people. And more.

We have an enormous safety net, we don't need superfluous assets and investment portfolios. And given that most high-paying jobs require one to work around the clock (see the NHS) then there really isn't any incentive when you can gain utility by choosing a career that pays slightly lower though will leave you with a decent work-life balance.
