>want to program
>start tutorial for a language
>really enjoy the basics
>as soon as anything slightly complex is introduced brain shuts down
>looking at code that's more than very basic and short quickly overwhelms my brain
why is programming so hard

because the teacher/writer isn't doing their job
you're supposed to learn things by taking breaks between lessons, letting your brain rest. Also you need >=8 hours of sleep while learning. In other words don't try to learn everything in a couple of days.

Actually it is only hard until you learn the basic commands. You should only watch tutorials for the basic things, trust me. I had programming class for a few years and every single time we got a complex programming homework, no program looked the same.
Sorry for the boring stuff I wrote, I think it might be useful.
Not everyone can learn to program.
that might just be how you learn OP. I'm a software dev and when i was learning, occasionally a new concept would just entirely fuck my brain for a while and i would feel like i could never understand it. After a while tho, it just sort of clicks and then you dont even know what you found confusing before.
