I started playing world of warcraft at 10 years old and stopped in my mid teens. I went into that game a somewhat normal kid, and came out a broken depressed teenager with no social skills. Not gonna lie though, I had some great fucking memories of that time. No one can take the first time my guild cleared molten core away from me

I could play first person shooters for days and days just stopping to sleep. Actually I could get very engaged into any game. I would fall deep into the story and lore and I would learn about all the characters and stuff. Multiple play through and everything. But now games have lost their appeal and I don't know why. I can't get engaged like I used to...

Even though I'm 29 it's not a problem of having too many responsibilities now or something. It's just games aren't the same...or maybe it's me who has changed. I just wish I could get as much joy out of the stuff I used to.

I have experienced most of the expected adult life achievements and moments yet nothing comes close to sitting in that dark room all day playing that game.

I played vanilla-WOTLK before I have to quit for real life. I returned for the panda expansion and it was not the same so I quit after about 3 weeks.

I remember my first Linux installs, back in 2000-2001. My modem wasn't supported so I downloaded all kind of manuals from the Windows partition and read them offline on Linux. I downloaded the Linux kernel version 0.01 source code and read it from boot to init. Nowadays I'm 29 years old and I'm burned out of computers. I get sick when I use them, yet I still do because I have nothing better to do.

All my friends no longer play anything together and have moved onto different stages of their lives and I'm still trying to find a game which is enjoyable to play with other people.

I still remember the time my dad drove me to the shop at 12 am to queue up to buy Wotlk, was so cool to see people who actually played the game IRL, he drove me home and on the way back he took me to a garage to by a bunch of snacks, he stayed up until like 2:30 to help me install it and surprised me by saying that I could have a couple days off school so I could play it, my mum and dad would come and sit and watch me play while I explained the game to them

You know, one of the best memories of my life was when Wotlk officially released and you could start leveling, I would give up a leg to see a video of the first few hours of the true release, everyone all together leveling up in borean tundra and asking for help on quests and looking for groups for local dungeon and chatting to guildies how cool it was

I also remember playing during summer break and I would spend basically every waking hour fishing with my friend at winter grasp talking on vent and listening to music before raid times

I remember my first ever time playing. I was thrown into a Badwater game, I was on attack. They had pushed almost all the way so I was kinda clueless as to what I was supposed to do. So I followed my teammates and walked right into a sentry nest.
Other memorable moments include:

Not that anon, but in my case I spent untold hundreds, thousands even, of hours playing vidya. I could've used that time to study more or get better at my hobbies back when I had functioning dopamine responses to things. Instead I used that precious time to seclude myself and git gud at things that have no relevance to anything else in my life. I won't call it wasted time, because I enjoyed it and I have good memories, but it may have been more prudent to cut back on how much time I spent with them.
