I do it all the time, call it hobby tourism. It gives you the high of being into a hobby without all the hard work, discipline and sacrifice. Plus you can pretend to yourself you're super knowledgeable but deep down you know you're a dilettante at best.

It's funny you mention this (and use that image in the OP) because just a few days ago I picked up a book on Howard Hughes and it's the only time, recently, in my life that I've been interested enough in something to keep going back to it.

my interests sway with whatever one of my boards I'm mainly using at the time (/mu/, /tv/, /lit/, /fa/, /his/) which I don't think is bad because I've learned a lot of things in each of those fields

I want to say I do this with people but it's not entirely true. I gain obsessions with people and never lose them.
