Small town anon here. Don't move to a small town if you're poor. You will not get a job. You will not have money to live. Move to a place with minimum 250k people. Places under 50k unless they're a "village" as part of sprawling suburbs like Chicago are incredibly Good ol' Boy and you ain't in the club. And you ain't gonna be in the club for 15 years if ever.

Depends how small the town is. If OP has some decent blue collar qualifications then yeah he could probably find something but not soon enough that his $500 won't burn up too quick.
