I've been thinking about the various means of discussion we use. I'm gonna try to compare them now, because I'm very frustrated with /r9k/ recently.
>Write out long-ass, high quality post
>Watch as everyone ignores you and tons of other bullshit template threads rise to the top of the catalog
>If you do get a reply, it's some bullshit from someone who doesn't put forth effort in their post at all
4/r9k/:
-Speed is there, sure. But because of that speed and the lack of quality control you're not rewarded for making intelligent posts. Instead you're rewarded for submitting garbage. No real discussion can be had.
-Quality is overall bad, people constantly yelling at each other, always a fight between the several factions of the board
-Can't make any friends, can't get to know interesting people
-Despite the robot being enabled the board is far from original at all
-Constant state of hating everything
Discord and IRC to an extent:
-Speed is there, speed is instant. People will always respond to what you have to say and you will never get bored.
-You have the ability to make friends. You can connect to people, have private conversations with them, and you will grow close to those people
-Diverse moderation: Many communities enforce their own rules and have different quality. The smaller size (not smaller speed) allows you to easily moderate your communities and enforce quality-control. Users are encouraged to participate directly rather than lurk
-Some places have the problems of 4/r9k/, but people can instantly make an alternative if the mods are being powertrippers
8/r9k/ and other small boards:
-Speed is almost never there. But quality is sometimes there. You may run into hatred / anger issues but usually they're avoidable.
-Moderation is usually bad. These boards are usually made out of anger towards what 4chan is doing and any new users from 4chan are usually shunned away, causing the community to slowly strangle itself
-Posts are usually lengthier

expected an opinion at the end but you only just stated the info, what is the point of this post?

speed is fast enough for me to find atleast 1 quality post per refresh, and even not, the board is fast enough to new content (good or bad) per refresh keeping me interested..
however 49k used to be a lot more quality

I'm trying to start a discussion. My opinion on the matter is that this board seems to be broken due to lack of moderation. That's it really. I've been using it less and less, and I'd really just like to talk about it.
