English major here, we don't do any of that shit. Maybe at like Oxford or the Ivy Leagues, but at your typical state school it's just reading a few classics/more modern stuff and writing bullshit papers on them.

I haven't learned a damn thing in the time I've been doing this, but I suppose the blame there lies more on myself for not making the most of the available resources

Like I said, it primarily is just writing fluff papers and occasionally doing a presentation or two.
Tangentially related, but the most interesting class I've taken so far has been a Mythology class that dealt heavily with literary theory (Girard, Freud, Levi Strauss etc etc (the book was Mythography by Doty if you want to check it out)). But still, we just wrote papers and I hate writing k e k

I don't know, really. Haven't looked very hard. I know there are some government type jobs you can get, working with congressmen and such. Copyright writers. Then the bottom of the barrel blog posting type shit. I kind of want to be a technical writer myself (typically they work with the programmers or other STEMlords to write user manuals and whatever else).
