What blows my mind is how little burger flipping pays when it's actually one if the most demanding and exhausting jobs in this garbage society
>>
>>38559329
The thing is that it requires no education.
I'm not saying it's right but people obviously feel cheated if people make more money than them when they don't have a degree.
It just kind of pisses me off. People on minimum wage bust their asses constantly. Meanwhile you see so many people who are paid to browse reddit all day and make 10x as much as we do.
>>
>>38559329
After a year working there I've learnt to just refuse to make burgers, I just put the meat down and refill shit
>>
>>38559396
Tbh I prefer it to pushing papers behind a desk all day for Mr. Goldstein, and at least you don't have to worry about your job killing you like with other blue collar jobs. If you live in a cheap enough area, it's possible with working at another job a little bit on the side to actually have to not work a lot, too. But that presupposes that you'll be single forever and you don't have a lot of expenses.
>>
>>38559480
Yea I love a good rush (I'm a waiter) but then your boss goes "if you got time to lean you got time to clean!" like it's your fault the place is fucking dead.

I work in the finance department of a casino and literally that's pretty much all the interaction I have with co workers other than asking my boss what new project she needs done.

Otherwise I just sit at my desk listening to podcasts and maintaining supplier contacts and updating our purchasing database. I am literally the only guy in our department and all the others really talk about is their babies or their teenagers having heavy periods.

I just stick to my own work and collect my check
>>
>>38559525
That's this whole "retail" mentality. Like generally since people who stay in retail long enough to be promoted are deranged psychos and lovers, they obviously have no idea in most non retail work people take long paid lunch breaks and basically duck around for most of the time. Annoying how small timey that shit is. Jesus retail is the worst

I mean it is our job to clean. But once that is done it's pointless to redo it.
There are so many reasons many of us haven't gone to school, it doesn't mean we should be treated like slaves.
I mean as a waiter fuck your 2.15 an hour. I don't need it, just don't pay me when there's no one I don't even care.
>>
Im a fucking walking ghost everywhere i go. People only acknowledge me when theyre forced to
>>
>>38559722
You must understand that you live in a slave society. Institutional slavery, most of the minimum wage jobs are done by immigrants too. Meanwhile some guy is literally making bank while sitting in a comfy office and listening to his favourite podcasts while you slave away futilely until burned out and replaced or arbitrarily fired

See if the company has an intern training program and try to get in. In my case I got a decent starting pay but I was part time so I didn't make that much in the end. I worked like that for about 2-3 years and they felt I had enough competence to be a full time. they hire you because your training is all field experience at that point. I have been doing this for about 5 years now and my non-compete expired. I have secured a few pay raises and extra benefits because I hinted that a few other companies wanted to hire me. They didnt want to lose their investment in me so they give me all if not most of what I asked for.

It's nice being seen as so important by the company yet I do such simple work.
>>
>>38559649
Women not surprisingly tend to control most of these positions
>>
>>38559825
>>38559790
The kicker is if you make less than that in tips then they have to pay the difference. The problem is they dont like that and will cut your hours for obviously not being good enough to pull in huge tips and even if they dont then you are doing one of the most stressful entry level jobs for 7 bucks an hour.
>>
>>38559843

>you see so many people who are paid to browse reddit all day and make 10x as much as we do.

Can't speak for all jobs like that but in many cases it's that the job has few intense moments that require fast thinking or knowledge and you're paid for those moments. Reminds me of this urban legend, Ford had a factory and one day a machine stopped working and his workers kept trying to make it work for hours then Ford was annoyed so he got the engineer who made the machine to come repair it. The engineer came for ten minutes and did a few things and it worked. A few days later Ford got an invoice for 1000 dollars, he sent a letter saying it's a high price for 10 minutes of work. The engineer basically replied that the time work was $5, knowing what to do was $995.

>>38559831
>>38559649
Learn something, the guy said finance, IT is also a good field for those types of jobs. Mainly work intelligently, I do agree that a lot of retail jobs are hard but don't require much thinking. As the anon said, you mainly need knowledge of both what you're doing and the insides of your company.

Unless you're a nuclear engineer or something extremely specific, the military is where you go when you're lost and have failed at all else. I fucking wish. Every job I've had is full of normie coworkers who want to be my buddy and then become disappointed when they find out how robotic I am. I'd love a job where I can just show up, do my work and grab my check on the way out. It feels like high lunch break at every job I've been at. Doesn't help that I'm in Southern California and in a college townish part of outer LA.

>>38559402
>just refuse
I was never good at that. I'd just do whatever they told me to do. Kept putting me on the register and I had to smile at customers. It was awful. I'd rather just make McNuggets all day and smell like grease and have a bunch of tiny speckles of burn marks on my hands from the oil when the lunchtime rush was in full swing.

I literally mopped up sloppy wet shit in a McDonalds bathroom and was happier doing that than customer interaction. It was like someone took a chocolate shack and threw it on the floor in anger.

>robowaiter
Instead of being super sociable, focus on quick and efficient service: something that robots tend to be better at. Even if you don't charm them with convo, most customers legitimately appreciate accurate and robotically courteous service more.
Whenever you have any down time, run food for other waiters. When I first started waitering, I just ran food for the other waiters whenever I had nothing else to do: pretty soon, I'd put in an order for a table during a dinner rush and would find that some other waiter had already ran it to the table before I saw the cooks even put the order on the line. Other waiters notice when you help out, and will want to return the favor in the hopes that you KEEP helping out. This results in increased tips for the entire waitstaff.

Best way to think of it, is like the entire staff are cogs in a machine. Robowaiters tend to have an advantage in being able to picture it that way. That's why they were always my favorite type of waiter to work with: whether or not you liked them or vice versa, overall profits usually went up with a good portion of robowaiters on shift, as long as they didn't sperg out. Or as long as a normiewaiter didn't sperg out if a robowaiter just turned around and walked away while a normiewaiter was gushing bout their baby to them...

>I'm not saying it's right but people obviously feel cheated if people make more money than them when they don't have a degree.
No one feels cheated when a plumber or carpenter makes a decent income.

The difference is that the burger flipper requires near no experience or skill. Is it a shitty job? Absolutely. I don't blame robots for loathing it. But any idiot can do it, why would you expect it to have a wage any higher than the minimum? If you quit they can hire any other highschool dropout the same day.
>>
Any former shut-ins here working or know someone working in security? What to expect?
>>
>>38563573
>$20USD/hr
How?

Is it explicitly just because you're willing to work the night shift? Most spots where I live just seem to pay min wage.
>>
>>38564283
hes lying. a gas station owner wont pay someone 2x the minimum wage to stand in a convenience store.
>>
>>38564320
That's what I'm feeling but I don't see why someone would lie about their wage for an entry level job. They seem to be more lax with people during the graveyard shift but that's about it.
>>
>>38564283
I'm Aussie and I make 25.50/hr for my night shifts; current exchange would make it around 20ish I think. Yea it's an extra $6 over day rate because of the midnight to 9am, but I like it.
>>
>>38559649
Just walk into the office, ask to speak to the manager, give him a firm handshake and ask him for a job

Construction is also a comfy as fuck industry
>start off working for cash as a brickie's labourer for friends on my uni holidays cos I was broke as hell
>really enjoy the work
>getting fit, exercising, hanging out with my mates
>drinking during smoko
>meet a supervisor one day
>notices I am somewhat articulate and cottons onto me not being a tradie
>tell him what I study
>I'm now basically pseudo-inhouse legal in a construction company while still studying

Works pretty good, I spend most of my time bored as hell though. Not complaining about the cash though.

I've never worked in retail save for when I used to clean the back at a butcher shop. Fuck retail, I feel sorry for any cunt that has to deal with that.

you don't know the feel of getting home after a hard day of work in an australian summer and going to sleep at 7:30pm after dinner.

Best sleep you'll ever have.
>>
>>38564755
>>38564679
Ive done about every aspect of building a house and demolition, its shit.
>>
>>38564755

to clarify,

your idea of 'comfy' is waking up m-f at 5 am to go to a worksite and perform manual labour so you can come home, stare blankly at a screen for a couple hours, and then go to bed so you can wake up at 5 am again and do it again.

interesting.

I don't like using cross country examples because things there are many variables in play. Your average product costs 46% more basically. It's not as nice as it looks at a glance.

Bus is cheap enough where I live and decent enough. It can be shit but it's ok. I have a car for weekends and evening if it need it. My friends ask why I don't drive but they don't live in this city ITS BECASUE IT WOULD TAKE LONGER YOU FAGGOT AND MORE EXPENSIVE PARKING FEES AND GAS WHY WOULD I DO THAT REEEE SO WHAT THE BUS CAN BE COMFY TOO REEEEE SHUT UP
>>
>>38564783
>>38564769
I'd not do it as a career since I'm a fucking nerd, but I also am a workaholic who likes all forms of hard work. I hate being funemployed since I'm bored and want to kms all the time. We have different values.

I liked doing something that I didn't have to think about:
>get bricks
>carry bricks to brickies
>put cement in wheelbarrow
>move wheelbarrow
>shovel cement into buckets
>climb scaffolding with buckets
>deliver cement
>rinse/repeat

And most tradies in construction will start at 6-7am and finish by 3-4pm. They also make mad cash when they're good at their job, its a racket.

I work in an office job in construction now and I spend most of my time bored as hell, but I like the industry, it suits my temperament.

It's in the city centre. There is but only for higher up people in the company or visitors. I'm sure schlomo has his spot.

Running around during the day, responding to fights and doing paperwork on infractions got tiring fast but then I got night shift and I just read all night now and started exercising in the down time. Like >>38560085 said, it's more about who can do the job than what the job implies. More skill demanding work means there is a smaller pool of people to choose from, add competition between companies who desperately need these very skilled workers and their wages suddenly go up as corporations or countries battle for them. Flipping burgers may be exhausting but everyone can and would do it so granted there will always be desperate people who want work, fast food places could fire an entire crew of people and have them replaced a minute later. All supply and demand.
