Smoking was literally the biggest mistake I've ever made.

I've spent thousands, actual thousands, feeding an addiction.

I've cut 20 years off my life.

I ruined my teeth, lungs, body, and cannot revert the damage.

Anyone else?
>>
No, but then again I'm not a retard.
>>
Never really been hooked into smoking all that much. I've smoked before, sure, but it becoming a habit, naw.

other than that fuck no. so disgusting. what age did you start
>>
>>38547210
When you're 18 you don't think about shit like this, you smoke cuz it feels good.
>>
>>38547375
smoking never feels good; you can feel every damage a cig does to you right after finishing smoking it
>>
>>38547375
I was offered cigs when I was 16 and declined. YOU didn't think about shit.
>>
>>38547375
I don't know honestly. Maybe it's because both my parents used to smoke but it never felt or smelled good to me at all.
>>
>>38547375
That doesn't make you any less retarded.

>>38547399
Also this, I've been offered cigs and cannabis, declined it all.
>>
>>38547202
I smoked 3 packs of cigs when I was 15 to look cool. Am I going to die?
>>
>>38547396
This. the first one of the day feels good. the rest just make you cough and you still do it.

I've tried like 7 times this summer to quit. This shit is fucking heroin, I swear.
>>
How much did you smoke? For how long?

We would like some details.
>>
>>38547396
It does feel good. It helps me coping with anxiety. I'm a NEET, almost never go outside my house, when I do I want to smoke to feel a bit better. I don't feel such a need when I'm at home.
>>
>>38547443

Why don't you try nicotine lozenges? They're not even anywhere near as damaging as smoking. Nowhere near.

The nicotine isn't the reason smoking is so bad for you; the slew of caustic toxins in the smoke are. Nicotine is relatively benign compared to all the nitrosamines, formaldehyde, etc. you're inhaling when you smoke.
>>
>>38547465

Why not try a less terrible way to consume nicotine, then?

Really blows my mind that such a shitty way of consuming nicotine became the predominant way.
>>
Suggestion to smokers who want to quit: start vaping. My dad, a life long smoker, quit cigs cold turkey after he started vaping, and he said it was easy as fuck. After you start vaping, just wean yourself off the nicotine by slowly decreasing the amount, until you finally don't need to vape anymore either. Either way, vaping is still better than smoking cigarettes.
>>
>>38547202
What's with all these anti smoking threads recently? I've seen 3 of these today that were almost copies of each others
>I've spent [large sum of money] on [cigarettes/weed/addiction]
>I ruined [years] of my life smoking

I don't smoke, but whoever is doing these stop, iot's starting to get annoying. If it's pure coincidence look for already existing threads

>Smoking was literally the biggest mistake I've ever made.
Nice shill thread.

>I've spent thousands, actual thousands, feeding an addiction.
You could have gone roll your own. I only spend about 6-10$ per week.
And by this logic having coffee is "wasting 1000s actual 1000s feeding an addiction"
Or eating good food too.
Hell if you add up any expense to a 20 years period it's gonna amount to 1000s or 10ks of USD

>I've cut 20 years off my life.
Implying it's a bad thing.
Implying it's true. kek

>I ruined my teeth, lungs, body, and cannot revert the damage.
Utter BS. Either fishing for (You)s or a literal shill.
>>
>>38547804
>Cognitive dissonance - the post

>I only spend about 6-10$ per week.
You can't do basic addiction it seems. 20 years is roughly 1000 weeks. 1000 weeks at $6 a week is $6000.

>Or eating good food too.
Are you serious? You don't know the difference between necessity and an addiction.

This is either trolling or the work of a real retard.

Rollies never look as good as smoking actual branded cigarettes. The social implications of it is almost as significant as feeding the actual addiction. Smoking rollies is like smoking Niggerports; it'll do in a pinch but most people think its rather low class.

I have to agree with OP though that smoking cigarettes was a waste of thousands of dollars and my health. I've smoked for five years and having quit about six months ago, some of the damage is still not undone and I don't see it ever reverting back to its former shape. I've no doubt knocked maybe a good three years or so off my life and made my bones much more fragile (also read up: smoking can cut your bone density almost in half).

Dumbass

>Are you serious? You don't know the difference between necessity and an addiction.
GOOD food is not a necessity.
Why don't you pick the cheapest shit (albeit healthy) then? A single pizza is as much as I spend in a week for smoking.
A single cocktail at a bar is more than that.
Fuck off idiot.
>>38547959
>Rollies never look as good as smoking actual branded cigarettes.
I like them way more. Much more moist and don't make me cough/get colds etc.
Plus nearly infinite possibility of mix and matching flavors.
It's like cigarettes started out as actually.. all coinneseurs smoke rollies or pipes.
>>
>>38547202
I did smoke for 3 years and had a half pack a day habit at my worst. Then a local vape store was offering free starter kits and I decided to give it a shot. It was a little pencil thin Kanger with 6mg juice. It dragged just like a cig and I quit smoking that instant.

Now on occasion I'll bum one off a friend if we're drinking but I can't even finish the entire thing.

I wonder if the vape shaming fedora bullshit is propaganda from the tobacco industry.
>>
>>38548069
I didn't get headaches when I quit. I was pretty anxious and actually got the shakes and shit. I also became a giant dick because I was always very irritable.

No offense but being a tobacco connoisseur sounds mildly douchey, like those young guys who smoke cigars all the time for every possible occasion or the pot smoker that refuses to smoke something because it's not Northern Light indica or some shit.
>>

>No offense but being a tobacco connoisseur sounds mildly douchey, like those young guys who smoke cigars all the time for every possible occasion or the pot smoker that refuses to smoke something because it's not Northern Light indica or some shit.
It's like you are a normalfaggot on a board where posters talk about doing heroine everyday while virgin in their late 20s.
Wow. Yea I'm real concerned if random people may think I am a douche because I used the word "connoisseur" once.
>>
>>38548279
? My issue wasn't you saying the word connoisseur. It was the fact that in my opinion, there is no great difference between most tobacco brands (except maybe Turkish blends, fuck that dirty weed) and that enthusing about these minute difference seems to be a waste of anyone's time and effort.
>>
I don't regret smoking but I do regret smoking as much as I did

I'm 24 now and started when I was like 18. I have periods when i go 1 pack a day, and sometimes only 1 cigerette daily, it depends

This is because you're a normalfag casual and you know nothing.
Do you also believe all red wine is the same?

It's amazing how normies who know nothing about a particular hobby have the gall from their position of total ignorance and stupidity to lecture others, who've been on the scene for maybe decades.

Tbh I don't even do that, I just smoke Chesterfield Blue tobacco, but I can easily tell the difference between one another, and some tobaccos are wildly different, so much so it takes weeks to get used to them if ever; hence why I think you're just a normie sub100iq redditor moron.
>>
>>38548232
>cont

Also, after two years I feel like I did before I picked up smoking. Ten years after my uncle quit smoking he had a chest x-ray for some reason and the doctor mentioned that his lungs looked as if he never smoked (he's an avid cyclist though).
>>
>>38548382
Like I've said, I smoked for five years about half a pack a day. I can tell the difference between brands but tobacco is just not a thing I nor anyone I know feel passionately about except the need to smoke when we're drunk, on drugs, studying, stressed from work, etc. It's a vice and a fix, not Southern Gothic literature. And desu, a lot of wine tastes the same to me as well. You sure are butthurt. Get yourself a patch and quit, lad.
>>

Not necessarily. Only 50% of smokers die an early death from a smoking related disease. If you stop now your risk is the same as a none smoker in 15 years to most of the big killers from tobacco - lung cancer, heart disease etc.

I see no difference at 50 between smokers and not smokers desu. Both are old and smelly and wrinkly af.
Why does it matter how you look like when old anyway?
You're not scoring chicks now and are a social retard autist outcast when you literally have the world on your palm with youth, goodish looks, potential, strenght u think non smoking is gonna make you look like a hot daddy at 50 or 60? Lol
>>
>>38550698
That's not true at all, the smokers you think are 50 are actually 35-40, and non-smokers are around 70.

Most men at 50 nowadays look fairly good for their years, as long as they're not smokers or alcoholics. The smokers on the other hand, look way older than they are. I could probably mistake a 30 year old smoker for a 40 year old, easily.
>>
I'm not antismoking nor I hate smokers or anything, but I just don't understand how people actually get into it. I was curious once and took one of my mom's cigs and it made me feel like shit. I got cold and I almost throw up. I figured that maybe I was too lightweight or something, and the experience made me not want to try again. But upon talking to some people, I found out that a lot of them experienced the same thing, yet they became smokers anyway. I really can't understand why or how desu
>>
>>38550793
>the smokers you think are 50 are actually 35-40
No you're retarded. I'm talking of people I know the age of.

>I could probably mistake a 30 year old smoker for a 40 year old, easily.
You're just making shit up now.
You watched too many hurrr smoking is bad ads.

I know plenty of smokers and non smokers and they're indistinguishable at 30 or 40.

Maybe the smokers can get more wrinkles later on, but the same is true for tanning and other stuff.

And as I said, if you're a loser now, surely you looking slightly better at 50 or 60 is not gonna help dumbass.

Why don't you apply the same logic to all other destructive or unhealthy activities we engage in out of desperation?

This isn't /fit/. You must be lost.
>>

It's not equally as harmful as being obese which the majority of amerifats are.

You know how smoke death stats work right?
If the dead guy was a smoker they attribute his death to smoking automatically.

It's bs I literally know no one who's died for smoking ever. While people are dropping like flies for all sorts of other shit all around me.

And again, I don't give a shit I actually HOPE to die soon, so this argument only leads me to reinforce my smoking habit.

As I said, y'all on the wrong board.
>>
>>38551044
How can they do that if it wasn't cancer, emphysema or other related illness?
>>
>>38551044
Fine if you don't care but you're spreading inaccurate information.

>You know how smoke death stats work right?
Yes I happened to have read several studies. You got the methodology backwards. For example, 95% of lung cancers are caused by smoking (this can easily identified, it's not a case of "oh he smoked so it must have been the cause").

>I literally know no one who's died for smoking
You point out the statistical flaws in large studies but you retort with a little anecdote? Come on man that is weak.
>>
>>38551137
It's not true that the stats are worked out like that. Smoking causes most of those death beyond a reasonable doubt since we now understand the mechanism behind it and can safely say it was the sole cause.
>>
>>38551137
>cancer, emphysema or other related illness
But you see they a priori decide that it has to be the smoking, even if occasional, that caused it.
Same as circulatory problems/heart attack and tons of other illnesses that affect non smokers too due to a myriad of other causes.

I'm not saying smoking is harmless at all, after all you're literally inhaling fumes and in the case of chemically treated tobacco all sorts of other shit, but there's an obvious tendency to exagerate the risks of smoking for some reason.

It's actually crazy especially nowdays when the movement and tolerance for drugs is so widespread..

The same expert who's gonna throw a fit because of cig smoke is probably okay with recreeational (mid-hard) drug use.

Hell, they've normalized AIDS as something "normal" adn "not a big deal" same with all other serious STDs yet fucking smoking is another holocaust.

May I ask, do you have actual statistics knowledge or are you just yet another normie median IQ "amateur" consuming popularized scientific publications and then out of a missionary/superiority complex shills all sorts of bs on the internet for free?

You don't know the mechanism for shit, they've decide a priori that HAS to be the case.

take three groups of people, first never smoked, second stopped smoking for more than 10 years, and third smoked up to their death

the ones that never quit had a much shorter life expectancy than the other two groups

if you quit now you can still undo the harm. as long as you're under 30, after that it gets hard to undo anything.

Let me guess, since those evil boogeyman "normies" don't like smoking, it's cool on here, huh? Nice edge, kid. Try to lose it before school starts back up or you might get into trouble with your teachers.
>>
>>38551299
Statistics can't be flawed. You don't need to attribute the cause of death to cigarettes, just find a correlation between getting a fatal disease and smoking. If people who smoke more often are also dying more often of, let's say, lung cancer, then it's safe to say there's a correlation between smoking and lung cancer, even if there are other factors in play.

beer makes me gag. alcohol sickens my stomach and i have to burn off all the alcohol over the next few days. weed was always perfect for me
>>
I've been thinking about picking up smoking again. I'm just so bored, it was really great to pass the time. Never really cared about how bad it affected your health too.
>>
>>38549595
>Was life a contest about who lives the longest?
It isnt? Isnt this literally what normies believe? I dare someone to prove this wrong.

Hiv meds have literally saved people for over 20 years now. Undetectable viral loads mean the host cannot infect others even without condoms. Smoking illnesses haven't even come close in terms of medical research compared to hiv.

Educate yourself anon. Hiv is horrendous but at least nowadays we can rest assured that people on their meds and are undetectable will not transmit hiv.

>Do you not see the irony here?

No there's no irony. If you had studied statistics at a university level you'd know how easily it is to manipulate them, especially multivariable ones.
You see "irony" because as I suspected you're the archetype of the goody2shoes normie with pathological trust in authority.

>Why the fuck would any twist the data to make smoking look bad? Even the government profits from tobacco sales.
Ok so you're only dismissing it out of the "ultimate cause" fallacy.

Yes well I have no idea why, there could be tons of reasons, including a purely epistemological experiment, feedback loop experiment, the usual end-justifies-the means exageration tactic.
Keep in mind the "why" is not how the scientific method works.

Take a look at this joke:
https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/tobacco_related_mortality/index.htm

It's mostly a a priori fallacy, they even say for certain that second hand smoke kills and how many it kills.

The way they determined that is :
a)did the person die from what WE say is a smokign related disease? Y
b)did the person get ever exposed to 2nd hand smoke? Y

THEREFORE: the person died by 2nd hand smoke.

It's unscientific and pure propaganda.

>Statistics can't be flawed.
You have no idea what statistics even are.
What biased are.
What sample is.
What a threshold is.
Please stop spouting rationalwiki platituted.

You literally described the opposite of me.

I'm a math grad so I did study stats.
I've been reading books on pharma and I know how results are manipulated.
I hate authority (am libertarian).
I'm a heavy drug user.

Based on how wrong your impression of me was I can't carry on this conversation.
>>
>>38551676
There's always an error in every sample obviously, but you can't come up with wrong deductions from them. If you find a correlation between smoking and lung cancer, then it's objectively true that smoking is related to lung cancer. That's how sciences work.

Then quit. I quit after smoking for seven years.

have you ever considered that maybe your unwillingness to accept that smoking leads to health problems that can kill is motivated by the fact that you smoke not that there's a massive conspiracy against tobacco companies and all the research is wrong?

Yea what a cohencidence. You literally are the opposite of what I said, can you break down the statistical odds of that happening for me then?

>>38551780
I never said smoking is safe, I said the death toll is hightly exagerated for some reason.
Doesn't it strike you as odd af that smoking is the ONE activity that government and media is hellbent on punishing to withchunt level of obsession?
>>38551891
>unwillingness to accept that smoking leads to health problems that can kill
Never said that shill.

And no as I said I'm suicidal so I would welcome lung cancer
>>
>>38551780
You have no idea what any of what you just said actually means.

Anyways, I'm not gonna waste hours in a futile discussion about tabagism or whatever, if you're interested you can go down that rabbit hole yourself or stick to normie orthodoxy I personally don't care as it doesn't affect me in the slightlest.
Peace out bros

>>38547202
yes, smoked from my 15th year, but i stoped smoking recently, at the age of 22. i know i enjoyed them somewhere in the past, but they become overly repetetive at some point, which made me quit them. Best decision i've made in long time.

>can you break down the statistical odds of that happening for me then?
Very high actually, because you're just bad at arriving at logical conclusions.

>And no as I said I'm suicidal so I would welcome lung cancer
I actually feel bad now. Why am I arguing with you. Please stop smoking and drinking you'll feel better physically and then you can start working on your health.

How old are you also?

Pack a day for about 4 years. Tried quitting a few weeks ago, made it a few days but I live at home currently and my mom smokes so there's always cigs. Also I cannot stand my sister at all.

I'm moving away in a few weeks so I'll try quitting again then

I don't understand this.

At 15 I started smoking(I'm currently 23), yet I've never really been addicted to it. These days I will often go a month or two not smoking at all, due simply to forgetting about it.
