I live in San Diego, California with relatives in Michigan and Brooklyn. San Diego itself is pretty conservative and where I live, Far-North county, It goes into Riverside county, which is 50 miles of desert, spics, and failing car shops. Riverside County voted Republican in the last election, and is full of conservatives, like SD.
Going to Michigan over the years helped me realize how shitty California is. First the housing there is much cheaper, with a regular house in Southern California costing an average ~500k. The gun control is horrible over here as well. When you go towards the center of California, that's where all the fags reside. But since I live in Northern Mexico, I get the spics. In Fallbrook, when I was going to high school, there was 80% """""hispanics""""" at the school. There were constant pot busts, dogs would come to school, and the sheriff was always there. Recently I heard that Mexicans brought guns to school and caused three lockdowns within the course of two months.

What I'm getting at is that you can live in parts of California conservative/Republican if you want to sacrifice the view and location. There are a lot of spics there, too.

I graduated with a 3.96 cumulative and 4.0 major GPA in Chemical Engineering, got a 170 Q 167 V on the GRE, did internships and research, got good letters of rec, and got rejected by ALL UCs for Materials/ChemEng grad school, except for UCSB and UCR. Not a single top 50 accepted me.

1. ivy league is a meaningless term unless you care deeply about collegiate athletic conferences. you can get an "ivy league quality" education at many public and private universities. the name on the degree will occasionally raise an eyebrow at a job interview, but that's pretty much it.

2. stanford and uc berkeley are, of those schools, roughly the same in terms of prestige. quality is dependent on department but there are some fields where berkeley (in particular) is absolutely superior to "the ivy league"

I've had so many people who I barely knew find a way to contact me and tell me how much they miss me and that if things went south here I could crash with them. Literally some guy I met at a bar on my 2nd week in CA who I've maybe spoke with twice since then said he always remembered me and I was welcome to live with him. I don't get where the stereotype of people from CA being stuck up comes from.
My worst experience was somebody thinking I was their ex and yelling at me from across the street, then following me and apologising for the mistake with a Subway giftcard that had $15 on it. I miss the cool breeze on a dry day and just sinking my toes into the sand on a quiet beach after looking for cool shells all day, or going to all the little pockets of Japanese stores and buying cute accessories. There was always something to do and even in my lowest moments I still felt alive.

I was blown away when I had my first burrito in Cali and saw the fries in it, it actually became a running joke among my friends. Luckily that meant they always knew what to get me and would surprise me with burritos. If you're ever by Qualcomm check out the Mexican place in the strip mall. HB pier and ocean around there I really like a lot. I used to go swimming there all the time because the swells are nice there compared to Long Beach and its right next door. The OC isn't that unique outside of the areas around the beaches and California has hundreds of miles of beaches.
