"Ok, Champ. You know the drill. First stop we're making today, and we're not going home until someone hires you on the spot. Whatdy'a mean you don't wanna go in there? Just walk in there and ask that nice frog over there for the manager. Stand up straight, look him in the eye, give him a firm handshake, and tell him you're the right guy for the job. It's that simple, Champ!"
>>
But dad people like me have been unemployed for months, finding a job isn't as easy as just walking in and getting the job

"Why do you think we're here, Champ? It's time you got a job, and I'm driving you around town until we find one. What do you mean it ain't easy? Only quitters make excuses, Champ -- and I didn't raise a quitter. Now you walk in there, speak with the manager, give him a firm handshake, and tell him you want the job. Four simple steps, Champ!"

OK, you fucking whiners, let's talk about getting a real job
1) Go to all the fast food joints you can get to in a reasonable amount of time. Apply to all of them.
--if you get offered a job, TAKE IT.
2) Google 'free resume builder'; go to two of those sites; make a free resume.
--be honest; yes, a short one does help
3) Go to Robert Half, Randstad, Adecco, and Kelly (staffing agencies); register on each one as a candidate
--don't lie about anything here, either
4) Google 'staffing agencies near me'; eliminate the ones that do 'executive recruiting' only; apply at all of the rest
5) Register as a job seeker at Monster, Indeed, and post your resume as a job seeker
6) Go to your state career page and post your resume there, too
7) Print 5 copies of your resume; have a nice folder to carry them
8) Have a pair of nice pants and a shirt with a collar for interviews
9) When you go for an interview yes, look them in the eye when you shake their hands, then try to relax; just tell the truth. 'I need the money' is a great answer to why you want the job.
10) When you get to the interview, give them a copy of your resume
NOTES:
You are there to earn money, not make friends. Be friendly, but don't mention anything in the interview that isn't about 'if you give me money, I'll work for you' and 'I am trustworthy'.
-A job that doesn't pay well earns you 100% more than no job pays you.
-The job you want requires 3 years experience? That is what fast food and temp work is for.
-If you CAN go to a trade school, GO!

I haven't been emplyed since I was 18, and I got a job at FedEx by just applying for shit on Indeed.com It's easy if you put in the effort.
Govt jobs are great too, since you can get pension after retirement. It's basically working for future elderly neetbux

Good advice.

I've done all this and more, but will say, if you're in a rural area, small town, or even a small city, jobs can be hard to find...even as a bagger at the supermarket (there's a waiting list just to get an application) or at the couple of fast food places here (one has such a backlog of applications, they won't even give 'em out...unless you're a hawt teenage girl, fucking horndog managers).

Traveling to nearest city, tried to sign up with a temp agency, but my typing speed (35wpm) wasn't good enough. Most people here can probably do better. I was also competing with middle-aged women who'd lost their executive assistant jobs and have years of experience, type very fast, know the office routines, etc. Sucked, but supply and demand.

Have sent out, or handed out through friends and family, dozens of resumes. I have a basic template with everything (degree, certifications, etc.), and then I modify it to suit specific jobs.

Finally, my dad knew someone who got me sent me out on a labor job (non-union) at a building site.

Did two weeks of hot, dusty, backbreaking work shoveling asphalt and doing other shit. Three white guys, three or four Hmong guys (we have a bunch of them here), two older black guys. A rare crew where everyone just worked their asses off, no shit talking, no attitude, no slacking.

It fucking felt awesome.

A couple of days after the job finished, got a call from Keej, one of the Hmong guys, asking if I wanted to knew anything about bricklaying. I knew the basics, so I've been working as a bricklayer for almost a solid year now with most of the same group of guys.
