1. Knives are more efficient in killing but harder since it's melee and you have to be /fit/ to rack up kills in a mass stabbing
2. The element of surprise. Knives are silent unlike guns and you can kill a lot of people if you're good. They were sleeping too.
3. Elliot planned it but it wasn't realistic and too bad of a plan. Could have easily killed 20 or so people but he didn't trained and brainstorm it enough.
