Fucking this. Growing up in the poorest town in my state allowed me to see how little people actually care about themselves. All of the homeless are either 20-something druggies who think that they're above paying rent and having a curfew, 40-somethings who think that they're above paying rent and having a curfew, or veterans who think that they're above modern non-smoking laws. They constantly bum shit off each other, rushing to buy cigs, substances, or Dunkies (coffees, never food items) with any money they get. They always have a huge network of friends and family, similar to Welfare queens, and much more than I had as a child. When they do decide to buy food, they have no concept of what foods will keep them full longer or how much food they'll actually consume in a week. They buy a bucket of chicken and two boxes of cereal and think that's a proper grocery trip. I've heard stories of homeless people who are actually in dire straits and deserving of sympathy and assistance, but I've yet to see any.
